Our unit the 556 Med. Company moved from Crailsheim to Wiley in Jan 58. Remember the good times. Try to forget the middle of the night alerts and cold weather. Lots of good people and good beer. Long time ago and lots have happened since. Hope everyone statoned at Wiley and West Germany so long ago are still standing up right and having fun.
David- I think I remember you? I seen your comment on the Crailshiem site, I am the one who went to Lebanon. I was originally with the 546th then went over to the 417. Do you remember a guy they called Harry the Horse(Harry Buckman)? Bob Tomashek
Don’t remember Harry the Horse. Do you remember Dallas H Crabtree in the 556? He had lots of WW2 fruit salad and was one of my beer drinking friends. Yes, we drank too much beer. I did run across a 546 Sargeant in San Antonio. I was pumping gas and saw this Sargeant pumping gas at another pump. I failed to talk to him. I don’t remember his name but you would remember him. This was back in 1971 right outside of Ft. Sam Houston. I was working for a control company at the time. Have a good day.
Stationed at Wiley Barracks Neu Ulm 1966 went TDY to Wheelus AFB Libya for 6 mo then back to Germany. I was a PFC at the time my name is Edward Blasingame 1st Sgt Davis was my Top. Worked in moter pool. Anyone still around from that time. I did run into a few comrads in Nam.
I also was at Wiley barracks in 1966. I was in the 79th engineers, co B and went TDY to Libia for 6 months? My name is Albert Hamor. email. Hamor@924hamor.com
HHB, 1/81st 1983-1984……Working with Pershing after 20 years in Signal Corps convinced me to Retire. Stayed for 10 years running the Neu Ulm McDonalds and living in Illertissen-Au til 1993
I was 15E in Bravo 1/81 from 6/78 to 2/81. Came back civilian 4/81, married my girl (lasted 2 yrs.), & worked at Neu-Ulm McD’s from 5/81 to summer 82 (?). Next worked in aluminium mill in Weissenhorn (where I lived) until 9/83. Left my adopted country & never went back.
Even after 30 years, I still miss it.
PS: I would cut off one of my fingers for just one glass of Ulmer Munster Krystal Weizen. Just one glass & I would die a happy man.
To BT Lynch. The American owner had over 500k stolen by his trusted German GM and lost the place in 1988 to new francise owned by Werner Paul of Kempten. I went to work there in 88 and flipped burgers for a month before making shift leader then GM in late 88 after attending hamburger college in Munich. Lived in Illertissen-Au until 1993. Opened the new autobahn McD near Gunzburg (Jettingen-Scheppach) and worked for francise owner Silvia Starkman. Quite a time. Worked in HHB 1/81st as Bn Commo Chief til retirement. You can contact me by e-mail aloien@yahoo,com if you want to chat.
Yep – I’m sure he was the same owner that I had back in 81. Nice enough guy – dammed if I remember his name though. His GM at the time was a Turkish guy who smoked alot of hash down in the cellar.
I really liked working there, on the corner by the bridge, Used to go down to the river on my breaks.
I sure miss Neu-Ulm. I’ll never forget my adopted town…

Some from the range, his room, and Sgt. Ledbetter. smartinplumb@yahoo.com
I came across this site and it brought back so many fond memories for me (well, those I can remember after having one Geisenhalbe too many). I lived in Neu-Ulm (first Voehringen then Ludwigsfeld) as a civilian from 1979-1990. Wiley and Nelson barracks were my home away from home. So were The Shake Up, Red Max (Blackhouse), Capos, Uncle Sams and the lake in Ludwigsfeld in the summer. I made so many friends there..to name a few…Brian Liston, Clyde Booth, Paul Rangel, Alec Smith, Steve Toth, David Hawk and more too many to mention. I visited Germany four years ago and I can’t believe how much things have changed. Take care, Karin (Wuest) Murphy
Is there anyone who knows Michael Bryant? He is an afro-american man, age 45-55 and he was stationed in Neu ulm around 1988.
I hope somebody can help me finding him!
was stationed wiley may 1955-oct 56 47th regiment 9th inf div. the russians sent the tanks into hungary to stop the revolt that killed thousands of civillians. Ike was president and had been through the 2nd world war and let the issue die on its own. training was the name of the game and oh yes the alerts getting all equipment to a designated area. but the beautiful fraulines and the munster was fun to clime and see the danube out below.
oct fest in munich awesome under the tents every one swaying and drinking the good brew. not the same wiley now. ahhhhh to be 20-21 again.
I was a kid when my Dad was stationed there from ’55 to late ’57. I remember the Hungarian Uprising quite well. My Mom was told to pack bags for us and await being told to report to the commissary for evacuation to France. I stood out on one of the the street corners in Wiley and watched tank after tank going by to be deployed on the border. Fortunately, the Reds didn’t cross the border into West Germany,
I was with the 28th field artillery unit in 57-58. I was in headquarters battery and spent time in graf on operation wintershield.Anyone remember sargent Sangraw.
In Ulm 81-83 2/33 HHB fist team I loved Ulm and Garmisch , I had some great friends and great times romas pizza beerfest we had the nuke protest what a trip the protesters surrounded the place we had a the german police living on post. The weekends at Garmisch were great beer and ski ski and beer,Anybody hear from any of the other fisters? Do you know my Husband George Hansen ( Wildman ) ? He was with the Firebirds Motorcycle Club. Romas was our favorite Pizza place but mostly we hung out at Waldeck !!!! I met my Husband in 1981 and he was staying at Wiley Barracks !!
How are you doing Jerry? I was with you on SSG Hackney’s base piece. Rick (Animal) Carroll was our driver and Jim Robinson and I were your fusers, loaders & charge guys. You were an assistant gunner when I first got there with you at Graf in March of 73. Michael came along later to the unit. Red sent me an e-mail picture of the three of you a while back. What do you guys hear from Sumner? Hope you are doing well!
I was with B Btry, 2/33rd FA there from March of 1973 to October of 1974. I see some comments from my good friend, Geary ( Red) Cottrell and mentioning the Dicks brothers, Joe Stretch & William B. Sumner. We had lots of good times at the bowling alley, theater, service club, EM/NCO Club plus many trips to the river during warm weather. Also saw someone from C Btry during that time. Wonder if they remember Bill Digh? I can’t remember the name of the Chief of Firing Battery for them but got along well with him and their unit armorer. Where has the time gone? It’s probably in the same place some of my memory has gone. Great to see some of the comment about Wiley, the 1/81, Delta Engineers of the 249th, the 1/32nd Honest John FA and some of the 1/4 Cav.
i was with HHB 1/81 FA. from Feb. 1976 to Sept.1977. I was in the motor pool then went to work in Supply. my MOS was 64 C. I lost contact with some close friends like Patrick Healey(Bronx,NY). David Rodriguez and Santana B. Holcomb(Azuzsa,CA.) and Angel F. Mannion AKA “La Flea” ( San Diego, Ca.). I have some Super 8 movies of my time in Germany, like Neu Ulm and my travels in country like going to Graf. if you remember me , please contact me, would like to catch up.
Jaime, was in HHB 75-78. I remember two of the three. Cannot recall Holcomb though. I was in wire section and have made it back 3 times to see Wiley. My brother in law became stationed in Frankfurt IN 1998 at Ramstein and my wife and I went to Garmisch each time passing by Wiley. A lot has changed since we turned it back over to the Germans.Hope to hear from you. Have been in touch with three others on a regular basis. We send emails all the time. Take Care! Don
