  1. I would like to know if anyone remembers John W Knight Jr or Tom Whittington. Both were from the Warner Kaserne 2nd Bn. 28th Inf. and in a rifle team with E co. from 1957 or 1958 til 1961

  2. I was at Warner from July-December 1955. Was assigned to 1st Bn, 2nd Regt., 5th Inf Div. We were scheduled to gyro with 11th Abn in 1956, so they asked for volunteers. As only the army can do, they took a bunch of us who volunteered for 11TH aBN AND SHIPPED US UP TO wORMS TO FORM A NEW unit–the 746th AIB.

  3. I was stationed at Warner Kaserne HHC 3rd Brigade 24th Infantry Division from July 1966 to October 1967 in the communication center. Great times in Munich! Was lucky enough to travel to Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Favorite part of Munich was going downtown to eat spit roasted chicken.

Great job you have done with this site!

  4. I was in Warner Karsern with the 503 abn inf reg and the 502 abn battle group from 1955 to 1959 when I left to go back into civilian life. I was in Co B both outfits and our quarters was by the main gate. We were on the third floor and our company commander most of the time was Capt Red Weber. He made major at the last moment before they would drum him out. I was in the first platoon as a bar man, for 2 years and then asst squad leader and was promoted and then demoted and then promoted again to sgt. I married a German girl over there and we are still togehter for 55 years. My daughter was born in the 2nd field hospital in McGraw Kasern on the other side of town. The drop zone was a 54 second DZ across the street from the Kaserne. I am in touch with Sherman Smith who lives in Utah and would like to hear from Warren Conroy, or James L. Jaap, Jame Thompson or anyone else who may still be around and reads this e-mail. James (Jake) Jacobs I now live in port st lucie florida e-mail jakenfrieda@aol.com

  10. Searching my Grandfather “Clifford McGregor”

My name is Sarah i´m from Germany and i´m 27 years old. I´m looking for my grandfather and his name is Clifford McGregor. In the 1950ies (-1952/1953/1954+) he was based at Munich. In 1953 his son (Erich Lachenmeier) was born. And Erich is my dad. The mother of this son is Ruth Lachenmeier and she is my grandma.

He had visit and see his baby/son just two times in his life! Unfortunately i´ve never seen him in my life… My dad couldn´t remember his dad because he was still a baby.

This is so sad…! And thats the reason why my grandmother (Ruth) and i´ve been looking for him or for any other family members of him.

Just looking for anyone that might remember my dad, SFC Simon T Powell, he was at Warner and Henry Kaserene from 1962-1966 and we lived in Perlacher Housing, found memories of growing up there and would love to hear from anyone that knew my dad. I miss hearing all his stories from his time in Germany, he stayed over there for a total of 17 years, was stationed all over Germany, to many oufits to mention that he was in. Thanks for any info you can offer.

  12. My son John Curtis was born in 2nd Field Army Hospital in 1959. I was stationed at Warner Kaserne 1958 and 1959. I lived in a little village on the other side of the rifle range. I walked behind the range every morning to work my wfe and I are visiting Germany this coming April. I have forgotten so much like how far it is from Warner to McGraw . Or how far it is from Warner to down town. I have many fond memories of my years there. I wish I had stayed in touch with some of the guys. Our Son passed away three years ago from cancer. We want to visit the hospital where he was born.

    • Was at Warner from 58-61 . Sorry about your son, I was with the 28th Inf there . I wished that I would have stay in touched with my buddies too. I have fond memories of that time.
      Steve

    • I was stationed at Warner from AUG 66 til JAN 68 with 2/9 Cav. I have returned to Munich many, many times. Warner is occupied by the German military, some sort of medical school/training and is now called Ernst von Bergmann Kaserne. Best way there now is U bahn and then a bus that stops in front of main gate (now located on north side, east side entrance is for ID card pedestrians only). Many new structures added and the parade ground is occupied by new structures. Overhead walkway over Ingolstadterstrasse to 1/2 of old Will Kaserne (now German, name escapes me) as other half was sold off for economic development. Will be there last 2 weeks of April for Fruhlingsfest, like a small Oktoberfest–far less crowded and far more enjoyable. McGraw is gone with a main autoroute beneath it and a large police building above the autoroute. No US military of any kind remains in Munich other than undesignated intelligence? Warner and McGraw are on a mostly direct North-South axis, but public transportation totally different now with the subway, which is wonderful for speed and expense. In my time, trolley from near Warner end-of-the-line stop to Karlsplatz then a trolley to end-of-the-line on Tegnerseestrasse and a 3/4 to mile walk to McGraw south entrance for night classes from U. of Maryland. I know Warner trolley no longer exists, not sure about McGraw, but doubtful. We still use trolleys as much as possible so we can see what’s around us, but most numbers and lines are different today. I would be happy to answer specif questions as we spent 17 days there last year, 17 days the year before, and a couple of weeks+ in 2006. Bob R.

  17. Hello everybody!

Perhaps anyone here can help me with my following issue:

I am tasked by the Concentration Camp Memorial Site Dachau to make a documentation on the former SS-shooting range Hebertshausen next to Dachau. The main interests we have is on pictures, videos or drafts of the area during and shortly after the time of the National Socialism. My documentation will be a basis for the Concentration Camp Memorial Site to reconstruct the area.

Since the shooting range has been used by the US Army since 1950 it is my hope to get in contact with former US-soldiers, who were stationed near that shooting rage. The closest casern to the shooting range was called “Eastman Barracks”, which is not listed on this page. Because of that, I hope to get some information from soldiers, who were stationed in Munich. Was anyone stationed at that shooting range or does anybody knows somebody who was?

Every memory or picture, even with the slightest impression of the area is of great interest for me (even pictures of events, people on the area, etc. are very important for my tasks).

I thank you very much for your help and I am looking forward to your answers.
