Hi Everyone. We were stationed in B’gaden, where i grew up from about ’83-86 when we were transferred to Georgia. I worked at the Commissary and as ski-instructor. Great times at the barracks with lots of parties in the parking lot right outside the barracks.
Miss those days.
I’m an Army brat. My father was stationed in Stuttgart (Robinson Barracks) and then Goeppingen (Cooke Barracks) in the 1950s. Each summer the Army ran scout camps for the soldiers’ kids in various locations. In the summer of 1954 or 1955, the Girl Scout camp was based in the former Gebirgsjaeger Kasern’s actual barracks, and I spent two weeks there. We were convinced the place was haunted, and given its history, it may have been … . Our various outings included campouts in the beautiful surrounding countryside and several excursions to Mittenwald, including a night-time trip to a very raucous beer “haus,” ostensibly to see the folk dancers who were entertaining.
Do any of you that lived at Strub and worked with the AFRC, either military or dependant remember the Delray Dancers, 4 gals that danced at all the hotels in Berchtesgaden during the early 60′s.
I had some of the best times of my life there as an MP ( 218th MP co) starting in 81 and lasting until sometime in 82 I guess . It was an 18th month tour.
Lots of great guys. T. Aschauer, F.Slappy, Alonzo, and a bunch of others. I remember Grady as desk sgt. Spent many aq patrol working for kim. Squad leader then was SSG Hall ( can’t remember 1st name. I recall he had a silver 2002 BMW ( model, not year) .
The chaplain and assistant ( Jimmy with the halo brace ) were great guys. The B/Garden CO was Robert E. Lee IIIrd. Very decent guy!
Anybody recall the tunnell system/bunker under headquarters?
