  1. 51st Maint. Bn HHC 2002-2004 Sure am missing Helga and Henry’s Kantina!!!

  2. I was stationed at Spinelli from Jul 90-Jul 92. What a great experience that was. I know no one on this blog I’ve read are from that time, but I share in the great times in Mannheim as well. I think about those times more in my life after 40 than ever before. I plan to take a trip back to Germany and France with my wife in the coming few years. I want her to travel on the roads where I once live for a short period of my life.

    • larry , i don’t know what is was like in 92, but i was there in 66 and visited in 2007. EVERYTHING changed. at spinelli we had a one mile to get the street car. now it sit on a big intersection. i was also stationed at funari and colman. colman was away from everything. now the autobahn runs right next to it.

see them quickly cause they won’t be our bases much longer. i got to tour then all by writing to my senator.

  3. Were you stationed at Spinelli during 82-85? I was!! Do you remember Crawford and Clements? …the two new females on the floor who shook it up?!! I was in 40th Trans Company, Drove an M915 also, like most of you who were there. Got out of the Army when my 3 years was up. I really look back on those years as a blast!….funny how that happens b/c at the time I remember thinking I can’t wait till I’m short!…and then counting the days down till I got out! Oh how I regret that now! Should’ve done my 20. …but in reality those were good times and special memories and I really am glad I did it….and to those of you who stuck in there and retired, good for you! and look me up!….b/c I need a partner with a retirement plan! lol :~) Love you guys (and girls) out there who served with me. Would be happy to do it again!

  4. I was with the 598th 1983-1985. I had so much fun driving those M915 tractors. I pulled the lowboys too. My CO was Karen Kearney. If memory serves she was a hottie. (No disrespect intended).

  5. Hi Folks, in those days around 1965 Spinelli was my playground as a child. My Mom worked at the Snackbar, Dad was in Nam and later was tere too, like before. Sergeant Barnes was his name. I rmember us stopping the car when the flag was pulled in.

Still live near Mannheim. So small activities still at Spinelli, but closing down like all.

I remember the Snack Bar still today. The had a pinball machine or two even. Music Box.

I was a skinny blond kid.

Also hung around the bowling Place, my dad manger there a a side job.

    lol

    • Tony, I served at Spinelli Barracks from August 1966 to December 1968 and I remember your dad and I think your mother name was Trudy and worked on the snack truck. I believe your parents lived in Feudenheim and went to a Gastehaus named “The Eintracht”. Your mother knew Karin the daughter of the Karl family that ran the Eintracht. The name of the guy your remember with the first name was Mike was Mike Gilmer. Is your mother and father still with us? Karin married a friend of mine and lives in the states. I was with the 1st Maint. Bn. and I think your father was in the 627th or 12th Supply.

  8. Hi Carlos, thanks, that would be great. Maybe one of them show a Jeep with the markings. It would be fun to see the old barracks anyway. thanks again. lou

  9. My recently deceased father was stationed in Spinelli Bks, Mannheim between 1960 – 1962 he was with the 521st engr grp, 27th Engr Co. I have found some slides of he took of his buddies while he was there. Unfortunately he was always behind the camera so I don’t have any photos of him in uniform. I will post some pics if interested.

  10. Hello, I was in the 1st Maint. Bn. Aug. Readiness Gp. at Spinelli Barracks from 1965-1966. My CO was Capt. Nelson (later KIA in VietNam).

I was wondering if anyone had a photo or two that showed a US Army Jeep that was used there. Reason: I am having a vintage Army jeep restored and would like to have the proper insignia/numbers put on the body just from fun. If anyone has a photo or two that shows the markings, please contact me. Thanks lou

    • Hey Lou, I remember you at Spinelli. I was there from Jan 66 to Aug 68. I need your email address….we have a private site on Facebook and have found 40 to 50 people from our days at Spinelli, we need to get you included! There are over a hundred pictures posted and a lot of BS……….
