  9. I was an M.P. assigned to Service company from October 1978 thru June 1981. Does anyone remember the name of the streets that ran by the front and back gates of Sheridan Kaserne? I was disappointed to see that all US bases in Augsburg (including Gablingen) have been closed. I appreciate any information on this. Thanks.

  10. was stationed at sheridan kaserne 68 to 70 mainly was SG on front gate. I remember the Playboy club and the little bar around the corner of the front gate

    • I was at Sheridan from ’68 to ’69 with the 24th Div. We called the little bar around the corner the “Last Chance”

  11. My name is Todd Rushing, also know as Toad. I was stationed on Sheridan between 11/84-6/86. I was with 515th trans company. I rode with the Wheels of Steel and spent a lot of time t the Last Chance. I’m looking for anyone that was in that unit as well as any old friends from back in the day. I’m also looking for Bob and Joan Baker. They lived in the housing complex across from the PX. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Red ? He was a truck driver with one of the artillery units.

    • Todd, hi. I was stationed in Augsburg from 1/85 – 11/86. I road on the back of a Harley with a guy from Wheels of Steel named Larry Dean Whitehorn in the summer of 1986. I think he was the road caption and in the 17th Brigade stationed on Reese Kaserne. I remember the Last Chance Saloon. If memory serves me correct, Red was dating some German girl – Gabby?? I don’t know of his whereabouts. All in all, good times and good memories. Barbara B.

    • Todd, I was the truck master of the 515th form 1984 thur 1985 SFC Jackson at the time left to be the 1SG OF HHQ 4TH TRANS from 85 to86

    • 515 rings big bells for me. I was across the parking lot with USACC Augsburg from may 82 to may 84 Howell sp4

    • To Rick Whiters

I was at the PSD at Sheridan from 69 to 71 with the 24th Inf Div Fwd and then the redesignation to the 1st Inf. Pete Stoll was one of my last barracks room mates before I left. Was a law school draftee and ended up in personnel management there
Best thing in Augsburg was the 8 PM train (that was usually an hour late) that got to Paris on time at 8 AM.

    • I was there from the end of 71 to 73 with ASA attached to HQ, used to give driving instructions and licenses to all the new personal and was also the post commanders driver

  13. I was at Sheridan well before you guys. ’68 & ’69 with the 24th Infantry. I haven’t had a decent beer since. I remember paying 1 mark, 30 pf for a half liter.

    • I was there june 68 till dec 69 lots of good times there

    • I was there even before you were, Jan 62 to July 64. 24th Infantry 7th arty. Strung telephone wire when we went on manuvers. Ur right about the beer.

  14. Hey,
I was stationed at Sheridan in June 1996- June 1998 as a Military Police, I am looking for fellow soldiers who was stationed there as well. Just wanting to check and see how fellow soldiers are doing right now in their life.

  15. Lived on Sheridan 72-74. Was a 72f and worked at the switching center…great memories and good times..

  16. There was a cute blond in either 2nd Ops or 3rd Ops, circa ’85 – ’88, don’t remember her name, she always went to the NCO club on Wednesday nights. She was half German, half American. I always thought she was the sweetest girl…very pretty…and she could dance like a sista! Anyone know her whereabouts?

    J. Green, former 1st opns

  17. Most of my friends called me Pappy Boynton and some even tried to call me Yoda but I refused…lol; any way I really enjoyed myself with 1st Opns Bat 1980-82.

I thought that place would be there forever, never thought I would see that place closed down. Seems like eveyone made Sheridan Kaserne the place to be at the NCO Club where everyone came to party hardy. Wow, what a nice time I had. Sharon Lacovitch was very close to my heart; and still is. In fact, I still have dreams about the place; being called back to duty and all.

    • hi look up the page on Facebook about the Last Chance Club you might find people there lots of pictures of Gi´s :)

    • I was stationed there 1985-1988 as an 05h , morse code interceptor. I was in the Sheridan Kaserne and knew many people but he doesnt ring a bell. look on the AUgsburg Army facebook page there are hundreds of members now.

  19. I really enjoyed my tour from 1980-82 on Sheridan Kaserne. Everyone came to our Kaserne to party to include beautiful frauleins. I remember faces but very bad with names except Sharon Lacovitch, O. Crestfield, Barky, Nathaniel James, SGT James from Lousiana, Pop from Dania FL… Really really enjoyed myself and unforgetable memories (good ones).

  20. 3rd Operations Battalion 1978 – 1982, with 1979 to 1982 being stationed at Schleswig Detachment up north.

Looking at google maps, it appears that the entire sheridan Kaserne is being torn down.
3rd Ops is still standing, Artillery Mess, a building near where the bowling alley was is still there but almost everything else is gone.

To assist in viewing put in Nestacker Weg, Augsburg, Deutschland centers the google map very close to the Kaserne. One can recognize the entrance where 3rd ops was.
