  3. Hello Cold War Vets!!

I was with HQ, 2BDE, 24TH INF DIV at Sheridan Kaserne 1967 and 1968. Participated in Reforger (to Ft Riley, KS) and Reforger I (“Czech Crisis” – 1969 – airlifted back to the Czech border). I visited Sheridan Kaserne a few years back. Nothing remained but the Chapel and the Officers Club. The Kaserne is now called “Sheridan Wohnung” or Sheridan Living – a housing development.

BTW, an EXCELLENT site having 2006 photos of Augsburg Kasernes can be found at:

    • Danke an Matthias fuer die schoene Aufnamen.
I was worked as a DAC for only a few months (1995) before our flag came down. It’s been too long to remember anything.

My first 2 trips to Germany (1973-77) were Nuernberg with Munich (1979-82). After retiring my job application was answered by CPO Munich and I went to Giessen in April 1987. It was followed by Nuernberg (1991-94). Augsburg from March 1994-Sep 1995.

I lived across from Reese near Burger King and the PX on Heidelberger Str.
Our “last supper” was in a Yugoslav restaurant just off post within walking distance of the guesthouse (Buergermeister ….Str). Does anyone remeber the place and name? Excellent food.

Reforger with all the FTX’s and NEO alerts were some of the toughest time’s. There were too many good times to enjoy. I enjoyed all of my 15 yrs in Germany. I speak several languages and German is my native language.

  4. I was at Sheridan with: C Trp 17th Cav 11th Abn Div (Deployed to Lebanon) ’58
    July 1, 1958 11th de-activated, 2nd Abn Brigade 24th Div

    A Trp. 9th Cav 24th Div ’59-’60

Was watching something reminded of Rotz Border Camp duty and bunker duty, 12 on and 12 off. . When not in field most of it was NCO school and of course the enlisted mens club. Fantastc service guy bands and great beer. Saw a fellow 11th guy not long ago updating me of those great clubs in town. Ater retirement have looked up a couple of these guys and had great time visiting. I was 17, 18, durning those years they were like brthers.

  5. Was at Sheridan 57-58 with A Btry 320th Abn FA. I just got back from there and they sure have ruined our kasernes. The buldings and housing is very ugly.

  6. Hello, I’m 1SG Luis Gonzalez, I served in Germany on Sheridan Kasern from Dec 1884 to July 1986. I was in the Ammo Section and at the time I was just a PFC, this was my first duty station and I definetely had the time of my life, I have many great memories of Augsburg, I remember the Last Chance, Bonanza, and a few other local places and bars. The town of Augsburg was celebration 2000 years in 1985, so every where you went their was a party. My battle buddy at the time was Rodney Watson, and we still stay in touch, I would like to see if there is anyone out there that was also in 1/18th FA SERV BATT the same time in Ammo Platoon to contact me. Grate place to start your Army career. Sorry to hear they have closed these places, Reese, sheridan and Flak Kaserns.

  7. I was in Augsburg from 1979-1981, in the Army, 3rd Infantry Div., 3rd. Batt., 63rd Armor, A Company. I was a M60A1 Tank Turret Mechanic and I am trying to hook up with some of my old buds. Some of them are Phillip Medena Rayes from Puerto Rico, Manny Perez, Rick Warren, Tim Pickford and many many others. If anyone of you read this, by all means give me a shout. Cpt. Wallace was the CO and Lt. Moore was the Exc. Officer. The TOP was SGM Vasquez and then a Short stocky guy that I just can’t remember, but he was firm yet funny(sorry top). Others were Sgt. Rush, Sgt. Jeeter, Kotus, TJ, and my room before I left was right behind the front door 24hour desk and next to the CO’s office. I used to see Jennifer Reed, and I would really like to talk to her again, we had a fallout that I need to get cleared up before I leave this planet. I used to ski at Garmish, and went to the beer fest of course in Munchen every Oct. and I used to hang out down by the river on the weekends with some friends & Jenny, I used to go the the Last Chance bar, and to that little guesthouse(Herb’s) right down the street from the bar that had the best Palmfritz(spelling?) I used to have drag racing model cars and a Kenwood stereo with those Sansui SPX-7700 speakers and a Technics dual casette player and a Technics turntable.
If you were there with me, let’s hook up and relive some old times, and get caught up with the current ones too.

    Be good
    John

  8. I knew a guy he was stationed there the same time.he’s name was Benny Stephens. He was military police.do you knew him?

  9. I was in Augsburg from 1962 to 1964. I was with the 54th Signal Company. We had a small detachment there to provide Signal support for the 24th Division. General Kimbrell was part of the Division in Munich. I was with his Son the day he drowned. We were installing playground equipment in a city park with a stream running through it. Some of the guys decided to go for a swim. Bobby was one of them. He got caught in an undercurrent at a small dam, and never came up. A very sad, shocking afternoon.
