To John C. Aldrich,
I read your email in older comments.
I’m not positive, but when you mentioned 4AD in Zirndorf, I think perhaps you should redirect your comments under “Pinder Barracks”.
I was stationed at Pinder Barracks, with the 4AD in mid 60s.
I check the Pinder Kaserne log once in awhile, hoping to find someone I once knew. At Pinder Barracks, although incorrect, we often said “kaserne”, instead of “barracks”, because many things on post were printed that way.
In answer to your email, I do remember a Sgt Strange with the 22nd Arty in 1966. I think he said he was from New York. He left in late 66.
I hope I was helpful to you in helping you locate old friends and comrades.
Oh yeah, can’t remember who was responsible, but someone forgot to pull the barges out of the river up near one of the border camps and they were crushed
when the river froze.
Stationed at Pinder Kaserne HQ. BTRY. 74th FA.From1948 to1952.The People of Landshut were very freindly and I met a lot of good People there. Also great Friends at the Kaserne base and would like to hear from anyone that served with me. Richard(Sgt.Dick Gifford)Gifford.
I am in the process of restoring a 1935 Adler Trumpf Junior. (sports car). The car was in the Landshut area in the mid-1950′s and I am told it was owned by a GI in the US army. The car was later imported to the US and ended up in my possesion in 1984. I would like to send you a picture of the car and ask if you remember seeing it on the base during the time you were there. Could you provide me you e-mail?
Did you know John Alvin O’Quin from Louisiana? I think he was an Army Sargent. Did you know a German woman named Ingeborg Rotter? I think she was working for the PX. They were my parents. Also did you know a John Markowitz, though I am not sure of the spelling?
Thanks Brigitte
My father was Sgt. Robert (Bob)Collins and he was a mess sgt.. We lived in Landshut from Sept 1949 to Sept 1952. My parents had twins born in Munich in 1950, too.
I am the oldest child and remember quite a bit, especially our “maid” Elizabeth and her family from the town. I attended the school at the base for 3 years.
Dad passed away in 1987 at Fort Dix New Jersey after a 30 year career with the Army. Several years after my mother died (she was quite young) he married a German lady from Landshut and she came to US to live out her life here. Regards, Carol
I was with the 6/61st from Jan. ’64 to July ’65. All but 2 months with “D” batt in Regensberg, went to HQ at Pinder once a month with reports etc.. Last 2 momths were at Ingolstadt.
I was stationed at Pinder Kaserne from 1963 to 1965. I found the town of Landshut and the People of Landshut very interesting. While stationed in Lanshut I made many exceptional friends. I have returned to this great mid evil town several times since my departure. Landshut remains a great place to experience the life style of mid-evil Europe during the 1500s’.
