Les. I was stationed at Rohrnbach border camp 58 59 . F co. 2nd batt.would be there 3 or 4 times in that period..I was a radio oper.Did you ever get to the border ?
Only to deliver some papers from Battalion headquarters. Once in a jeep and once in a helicopter. You were more active than we pencil pushers in HQ. I did do quite a bit of response to border incidents when they would come down the chain from USAREUR. We knew what was going on and we mostly just flipped it off if it was an accusation against our patrol.
Great to have contact with someone from that time period. Visited Landshut a couple of times after serving there from 58-60. Once in 64 and once in the 90′s. Don’t think the kaserne is there any more. Do you have any photos from that period of the kaserne?
Stationed in Landshut from 1958 to 1960 serving in 2nd Battalion (Squadron) Headquarters. Worked for Sgt Major Thompson, Adjutant Orr, XO Sevall and a couple of Battalion Commanders.

Served with the 11thA/C 1959-1961 …… rotated to the border then to Passau then back to the Kaserne . repeated every month. Was with F troop and my platoon leader was Lt Lozano , an enlisted man who rose through the ranks.
Hi Doug
I was stationed at Pinder also from ’59 to ’61. I was a radio operator in Hq.troop. Spent some time at Landshut then got transferred to Rohrnbach on the Czech border and back to Landshut. Also went to Passau for a short time. Did meet Lt. Lozano while he was O.D.and i was on guard duty one night, real decent guy ! We had a French company attached to us while i was in Rohrnbach. . Where have these past 50 years gone …
I was also at Pinder with the 11th/AC in 1959-1961 as a radio operator in HQ Troop . Spent some time in Landshut, then went to Rohrnbach and also Passau. Did meet Lt. Lozano while he was O.D. and i was on guard duty one night.. real nice guy. We had a French company attached to us while i was at Rohrnbach.
I remember a Marty Robinson from Boston in F Troop from Sept 1959 to Sept 1961. I was the ammo truck driver for a few months before I rotated back to the states. Was good friends with Ted Sanders, Arty Lefco (not sure of the spelling), and a guy named Dancy from New York and Johnny Delgado from CA. Most of the time our CO was Capt Rowe and later a 1st Lt, a tall blonde guy. Lt Lanzo was in another platoon. Most of the time I was in the HQ platoon of F Troop. One of tank sergeants we called Fat Pappy, can’t remember his name.
Others were Tex; Richard Kerns and Joe McNamara a red haired guy from Boston. Some of the sergeants were, David, Davies and the motor pool sergeant was Sgt. Emmit (again not sure of the spelling).
Jules Abercrombie, I was in Landshut in 1960 -1963 and altough we weren’t there at the same time, we did almost all the things you got to do, except going up on the hill to see the missile area and radar. If i would have known it was there, we would have gone hiking to see the area. One of the things at Pinder Kaserne i liked best was the A.Y.A., where they had models to build during the week, after we got out of the elementary school, and the A.Y.A. had a teen club to listen to music and dance on the weekends. There also was a bowling alley, that i was on a league and had alot of fun with my classmates. I also remember going to Schoenbrun area and playing little league and in the winter time going down the snow hills, now that was really fun. If any others were in Landshut, leave some comments. I lives in the Niedermayer housing area by the elementary school and had Mr. Masemore as my teacher there. Thanks for all who will write and has written about our times in Landshut!
Ronnie and Julie, I were in Landshut from 61-64, 4th-6th grade. It is great to read these posts. I thought I was only only one who used to crawl under the wire to play in the tank pens. My dad was the 1st Sgt at the Post office at Pinder and also was the theater manager. We lived in the 2nd building in Shonnebrun housing. The principle, I can’t remember his name lived below us. On the end where we waited for the school bus.
The AYA, brings back lots of memories, the models, the pool table, the dances.
My brother and sister went to Munich for HS. Actually my sister, Lillian, had Mr. Masemore for one year before she went to Munich.
Small world.
I was in Landshut for all to brief (62-early63)a period before my Dad got transferred. Mr. Masemore was my teacher as well. Lived in the Neidermeyer
housing area. I have run across some of us who lived there, but far too few.
My Dad was in the Hawk Missile outfit.
My father was stationed in Landhut from ’61-’63. His namewas gerald “Jerry” Paone. Would like to know if anyone knew my father. He passed away in ’89.
He was in B battery 6th missile battalion 61st Artillery
I was stationed at Landshut 1961-62, I was with the USAF, 601st Tac Con Sq. OL # 8
We had the 3rd floor in the barracks over the Dispensary. Many nice memories.

Guy, how goes it w/ you. I’ve been in touch w/ Perry in Hawaii & Robert Rizzo in Buffalo & Jim _______ (his name will come to me later). Look him up on the Radomes website under the Friesing outfit. Ray Peters is still married to Gabby. Drop a line. RT
I was an Army brat living in Landshut from 1965 to 1968. My dad was stationed at Pinder Kaserne with the 6th Missile Battalion 61st Arty and was the FDS Officer. Our name is Abercrombie. I remember the American Dependents Elementary School with Mrs Boutwell (and her sporty midget MG), Mrs Mendoza and Mr. Attaboto. We lived at Schonnebrun Housing complex in the end building that had the playground behind it and the “sledding” hill. Before Germany my dad was stationed at Fort Bliss Texas, so I had never seen snow before. That first winter snow in Landshut was unbelievable to a kid. I played baseball at the little league field behind the Officers Bachelor Quarters. There was also a tennis court there and the Officers Club. In downtown Landshut there was a store that would sell WWII souvenirs. The kids would go to the woods next to the sledding hill. In the woods were trenches from the war. We would dig in the trenches and if we found anything we would take it to the souvenir shop and get 10 pfennings for it. (enough to buy a pretzel). In the alley across from the souvenir shop was a nighclub called the Pigalli. Although I was 8 or 9 my parents would take me there in the afternoons. I heard from my sister that it was a real swinging place at night. She went to the American High School in Munich and stayed in the dorms there Monday thru Friday. I also remember playing ‘Army” in the motorpool. There is nothing more realistic to a kid than playing army on real tanks and jeeps. The movie theater was a fun place to go as a kid. We use to go through the German Kaserne to get to the movie building. If I remember correctly it cost 10 cents for kids and 15 cents for adults. I also became a Boy Scout at that time. The building we used had a pool table and sold plastic model airplaces, ships and tanks to the kids. When we went camping we use to go up to the “Hill” where the radar equipment and hawk missles were stationed. The Army was generous enough to supply tents, wooden pallets and a truck for our Boy Scout campouts. Landshut was a great place for an Army Brat to grow up. My parents and I still have German friends from Landshut that we keep in touch with. We have gone back to Landshut on visits and they have come here to the U.S. It was a once in a lifetime experience. Are there any other dependends that remember any of this ?
Hello Jules,
I read your post and had a sudden flashback when you mentioned the teachers and Mr. Attaboto specifically. I had him in 4th grade, 66-67. Nice guy, always had a five o’clock shadow at 10am HAHA. My dad was posted to Korea on a hardship tour, so my mom, sister and I lived with Oma off base. We were picked up the first year for school by staff car, which was cool, but later there were more kids living off base due to dads being sent to Vietnam that they needed a small bus. Great times in Landshut, I still keep in touch with our German friends from back then. Living off base kept us away from post life most of the time, but we did make time for movies, commissary and PX. Ed
Maybe you remember my father, SFC Edward Stuczko, tank commander with 6th ACR. Married my mother in Landshut in 1955. As a service family we spent eight years in Germany, one in 66-67 while dad was in Korea.
