I was at HQB 1/22 FA from Jan 1976 – Dec 1979. I was in the Bn radio repair shop. I am still in contact with two of my buddies there which were Steven Rybo and Don Myers.
I was stationed at Pinder Barracks ( C btry 1/22 FA ) from May 68 til Aug. 69. Will like to hear from; Cruz, Gines, Pagan, De Jesus, Silva, Harpold, Hill , Foster and all those that I can’t recall their last names now but ,served with me at Zirndorf.
I am looking for Charles Vandiver ( E6 back then) stationed at Pinder from 1978 or 1977 to 1983. Can’t remember his company but it was in righ corner right when you went through the arch of the tower. Let me know if anyone remembers him or know’s where he is.

I was in A Btry 1/22. I was there from November 74 to nov 76. I was the battery armorer. Captain Hubbard was our commander along with SFC Brantley and Leuitenant Paul Rines. I was just a kid back then and I counted every day until my time was up. As I look back I, I realize that it was the best years of my life. These are some of the guys that I can remember:
Preston, Sgt Miller, Shannon, Rick DeRidder, Willie ( Karate ) Deed, Gonzales, Whaley, Sgt Kenneth Griffin,
I would love to hear from anyone that wants to reminisce about the good old days at Pinder. I was so dissappointed when I discovered that they tore the barracks down. I was told that Hitler’s troops were housed there and that there were tunnels underneath pinder barracks.

I have many fond memories of my time there, and would enjoying talking to
anyone who has been there, and has similar experiences. Gotta love the internet.
How is life Greg?Do you remember me?We were in Ft Sill at school before we came to Zirndorf.I still have a picture of you from the barracks at Sill.Hope your doing good.Tennessee right?
Was there from ’79 to ”82, A btry 1/22 Fa, was a gunner for the 2nd howitzer section, breaks my heart that they leveled Pinder pretty much so I hear,a lot of good memories went down in the dust.A lot of good people back then,I’ve been told Cpt. Squires and Top Ogles are deceased now, they’ll be missed if any of you guy’s remember them.I’ve been told by my cousin who is currently serving in the Special Forces, that gun dogs are the hardest, toughest, bunch of soldiers he’s ever come accross, thay’s a feather in our hat to be proud of.
I was at Pinder 9/59 through 6/61 in 4th AD Divarty, TA Bty (Prov) as a radar mechanic. Wonderful experience and “improving” memories of the “P”. Anyone recall the “Paint Pinder Pink” episode? I will go through my diary one of these days and return with the special names I don’t have firmly in my memories. I’ll never forget…Stan & Ray Isa, John Aldrich, Asher Chambers, Dale Pagelow, Dale Clawson, John Shanley, Luc Belisle (who called me “Keed”), Tom Dorwart (metro mechanic from DC) and Sam Strange (“Stick”).
Wagon Wheel 10/over. (never forgot the old man’s call sign on alerts and Winter Shields) Talk to me
Dennis, I have been wondering how to find you for some years now. Would you believe, I did go to University (Boston, BA and MA), then to London (PhD). I taught Zoology in Trinity College, Dublin (Ireland) for 27 years, retired in 2001. My Irish wife Pamela and I divide our time between Wexford in Ireland and Strängnäs in Sweden, when we’re not travelling. Our younger son has just moved to Australia and our elder is studying in Manchester. I have lost contact with everyone since I left the USA in 1972. We must share our happy memories of those mad years in Bavaria.
Dennis, further comments. Were you there for the ‘Middle Franconian Armchair Quarterback and Literary Choral Society’? Do you remember Harry Edgar Mayor (who later was married to my sister for a while); or David Orren VanEck, or Kjell Skaarbrevik? How about the Cafe Bub with Sophie and Rosie. What about James Edmund Smyth of Waterbury CN?
In 1988 I met a young man who was stationed at Pinder Barracks. His name is Roger Nagel or Nigel and he was about 23 – 25 yrs old that time. I met him at Nashville Disco in Nuremberg. Does anybody know where he is at the moment. I would be happy to know if he is still alive. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
I was stationed at Pinder Barracks from Jan. ’28 through Dec. ’69. I have visited Zirndorf many times over the past 40 years and watched the transition of Pinder Barracks to a family community. Zirndorf a great little town and my wife & I have enjoyed visiting old friends & places (Some still exist—Goldener Lowe, Cafe Bubs, Eli’s Gasthaus, Wildemanns,etc.). Tschuss, tk
