  9. Hello to all Cold War worriers.
My family and I were stationed in Giessen from 1987-91. My son David attended school there. I worked as a US liaison officer with the local German government. My family and I lived in nearby Lich next door to the famous brewery. Every morning when I walked out to my car I could smell and identify what type of beer was brewing. Many times I had breakfast at the small caboos located behing the guest house. Purchased my Minolta 35mm camera at the Pendelton PX. Excellent auto craft shop. English man cooking and selling his soup in front of the PX. Burger King for a quick lunch. Giessener Stube and the Dach caffee downtown for a Schnitzel dinner. Iraq war with our troops securing the housing are and the commissary with a M117 .50 cal mg with life ammo. German demo against the Iraq war marching towards the depot gates. Trips to Kirch Goens, Friedberg and Schloss casern mil were always a pleasure. Great times great memories. Memory lane. I managed combined mil service with civil svc 15 great years in Germany.
    Take care and stay safe,
    Adolf

  10. Hello everybody.

Since a month I am studying in Giessen. I live at the same place where the old pendleton barracks were.
These days it is a social community project where everybody is living together.
One air raid shelter is changed to an climbing tower.

i am really interested in how it was when it still was the US base. i am going to make a documentry about this area.
is there anybody who still have film material out of that time. Or maybe some pictures?
I am also really interested in personal experiences, how was the life here?
Is there anybody who could give me some information? It would be so great…

    regards,
    Anna
