1962-1964 Bravo 97th Sig Bn, worked at Illinois Carrier Site, also worked as SP for a while. There with a bunch of 293′s from Ft Gordon. With Wilson, “Blackie” Wells, and many others I can’t recall right now. Went on to Jump School, Viet Nam, Bragg, Korea and finally retired 1n 1984 in Neu Ulm….stayed there for 10 years.
I was assigned to HHC 1/16th INF from 1986-1988 (scout platoon) best assignment of my career, best bunch of guys I ever knew. Good thing it was my first assignment and propelled me to make a career out of the Army. I wonder what ever happened to my buddies SPC Moore and Teasley. I am still in touch With Hunt, Gomez and McCampbell.
God Bless You All!!!
I was station at RB and worked at the Data Center located at Panzer Kaserne from 1982 to 1984 then later relocated the Data Center to Robinson Barracks.

Company C, 97th Signal Battalion Jan 1962 to June 1964. Other then early AM wakeups and the field duty periods, not a bad assignment. Maybe Helga is still living there. Very sweet.
While first cousin Paul was here, I was with the 144th Sig BN in Goeppingen and Crailsheim Aug ’63 thru Aug ’65. Paid him a visit once or twicr while his brother David was in France. All three of us were in the Signal Corps. I was 053/RadioTT/ CW. Quite a coincidence!! And we’re all still kicking!!!!!

I was with the 5th PsyWar company in the early 60′s and was stationed at Panzer Kaserne. I went to Panzer with a buddy from Karlsruhe and noticed a sign that said 5th L & L (Loudspeakers & Leaflets) and went into the building and asked the company clerk if they needed anyone who knew how to run a printing press, and the Commanding Officer yelled from his back office “YES WE CAN!” I was then transferred from the 25th Signal Batt. in Karlsruhe to the 5th PsyWar. The company had just had a tragedy where there was a fire and a Lt. was killed. I didn’t know anyone at that time, but I enjoyed my time at the 5th PsyWar company. I’d love to hear from anyone from those days. My address is 8757 Stephenson Lane, Hemet, Calif. 92545 and my phone is 951-325-5481. Jim Brown

I was a dependent and was in Boelingen Germany from 1950 untill 1953. I attended the elementary school on Post. My Dad was the Mess Sgt. for the 97th Sig. Bat. That area was still under construction from the Allied bombing. I have stories that would be very hard to believe about what my Brother and I did while there. My Dad was also with the 10th Mountain of the 87th Reg. and at that time he was a combat medic in Itally in 1944/45. He retired at Fort Hood Texas in 1961. His name, Johnny W. Herring Sr. He passed away in January of 2008. God Bless you all that read this.
I remember the school was near the front gate, one day there was a big
crate with books that had been packed with straw, and a big hairy spider
came crawling out; we all jumped up on our desks, one of the boys near
the door ran and got the janitor. I believe the next year the school was moved
into the hospital.

Tom,
I’m one of the old guys too. I was at the Panzer Kaserne from mid-February 1953 to December 31,1953. I was in the 596th Signal Support Co. Our building was directly across the street from the 39th Battalion motor pool. I don’t recall where the 545th was quartered but I do remember delivering malfunctioning power units to the depot.
We were a mobil communications unit and went anywhere in the American zone where needed so I got to see alot of different places but it was always good to get back to Boblingen.
Dinkelacker bitte?
I was in the 12th Transportation Co. at Panzer Kaserne from 1967-1968. The 12th was Reforged back to the USA, and stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood. They had also reforged the 396, and 34th Trans to other forts in the US. I had many good experiences driving 2 1/2 Ton & 5 Ton vehicles around Germany making deliveries. I’m sure the 12th is no longer in exsistance but it had been in Germany since WW2. I was glad to have great times drinking and eating in Boblingen & Stuttgart.
Dan,
I was with the 12th. Trans. Co. in Fort Lost in the Woods from 1983 to 1985. I don’t know if the unit still exists but it did back then. We were basically a support transportation company. Our greatest missions were that we took field chow out to training soldiers. We also supported the Combat Engineers, the 93rd. Evac Hospital, and anyone else that needed something moved. We were a Light, Medium, and Heavy haul outfit at that time. You Call We Haul was our motto.
I was in the 396th Trans company at Panzer Kaserne from 1966-1969. I was a mechanic on 2 1/2 and 5 ton trucks and part time wrecker operator. I was one of those assigned to go around to other Trans cos. and help them get ready for operation “reforger”. If I remember correctly, we shared barracks and motor pools with the 12th?
