I was stationed at Panzer, May of 1982 to Nov 1984. I was a mechanic with the 1/16 infantry, CSC later changed to Echo company. We painted a big picture of ET on the bay door. Anybody from that time frame? I recall mechanics, Howe, Blackwelder, Napier, Gay, Brush and Roberts. We had a motor Sgt named Cosby or Crosby I think, then a Sgt Kleekot (Sp?). Great times at Graf, Hoenfels and Muncigen (sp). Always good times at reforger and on the railhead.
Harry Christopher, Lord I do remember you. You were in personell with Bill Riddle, Sgt Shubert, Sgt, Strickland, Bill Grueera, Bob Springer, Pete Whitaker, Bill “Dog” Davis and others I cannot recall at this moment. I was the copmpany armorer adn also worked in supply with Sgt. John Reid, Jim Shiflett and Sam Hill. I am in touch with Shiflett, Richard “Dick” Depathy who ws in the message center, and Calvin Blount who worked in the motor pool on a regular basis. Also, I have caught up with Jim Harrington who now lives in Mobile, Alabama and visited with him a year ago when I was visiting friends there. Great duty at Panzer Kaserne. Remember Sgt. Maj. Theapolis A. Daniels with his handle bar mustach and spit shined shoes. Quinten McCoy was his orderly room clerk. Quenton died a few years back from cancer as did Bill Riddle with whom I remained friends until his death. Contact me. I live in Greenville, SC

I was stationed at panzer kasern from 1966 to 1967 with the 85th transportation co. Bobligen germany. would like to hear from anyone that was stationed with me at that time. Thanks!
I was stationed at Panzer Kaserne from 1961-63 in the 97th Sig Bn. I started in D company and spent about a year on TDY at Radio Relay sites in Langenbrand and Bad Durkheim. In 1962 I had a problem with a jeep and some girls in Bad Durkheim. Aftrer a reduction in rank I came back to serve the balance of my enlistment in B Co. at Panzer Kaserne, It was a very nice time to be in Germany and I thought that Panzer Kaserne was a nice place to serve. I had a great job and served with some very fine signalmen. I will always remember those times and the people I served with.
I was stationed 585th signal and worked the radio site in the BOQ for at least 6 month , there may not be many of us left , I arrived at panzer kaserne sept of 1960 shipped over on the upshur. The 585th was deactivated we activated the 26th signal BLT. cannot remember Co. but the first sgt was J.W Arsinault later he became sgt major of 26th sig blt. Hgter in Flak kaserne in Ludwigsburg I left Germany on the bruckner in late AUG 1962 would enjoy hearing from anyone stationed there I remember Berube , John Garvey , Charles Deipetreantonio Baldanegro, Lt. Bob Rich , Earl Crockett , the late Vaugh Davis , Lance Parker
Still looking for anyone that was in B Co. 299th. Spt. Bn. from 86-88. Would like to hear from anyone that remembers some of the good old days at the Longhorn and eating late night chicken at the Bohnhof.
I was in B Co. 299th Spt Bn from 86-89. but was attachded over to 237 Armor Bn, supporting the tanks. I have a lot of great memories from Germany and I do remeber eating chicken at the bohnhof, really late nights.
sorry, your name does not ring a bell.
Were you on one of the maintenance contact teams? If you were I probably know a quite a few of the guys you might know from the motor pool at B co. I had two of them as drivers because we didn’t have enough 88 mikes. How about SFC. Wolfe, SGT. Williams, SGT. Slater, SGT. Spiedel, SGT. Miller or SGT. Sennet. The two drivers that I took from motor pool were SP4. Carl Steadman and SP4. Derrick Sullivan.
I was stationed on panzer with the 296th, from 84-87, I knew a Sgt Fredrick Brown and Sgt Angela Jackson. Lost contact with both. Brown Pcs’d to Hood and Jackson I don’t know, do you remember them. I remember the bonhauf chicken and the hamhocks good eating. (by the meant to say they both were in your unit.
Terra, I do remember Sgt. Jackson I think. She was in Tech. Supply. She worked with SP4 Mike Covington. I also remember two Sgt. Browns. One of them had like nine kids and had just move his wife and family in country. He had been in Germany for quite some time trying to save money to bring his family over. I remember him because one of the last things I had to do was set up a payment plan for him at the bundespost to pay off a phone bill his wife had run up. You see no one had told her that calling back to the States cost so much and while we went to Graf for a FTX she got lonely and called her Ma Ma and friends like she was still back on the block . Ran up like a $10,000 phone bill. The other Sgt. Brown I think worked in the Motor Pool maybe.
Terra, I do remember Sgt Jackson. She used to work with one of my good friends Mike Covington in Tech Supply. I also remember two Sgt. Browns. One of them had been in Germany for quite some time trying to save up some cash to bring his family over. He had like nine kids and a wife. He kind of sticks in my head because one of the last official things I had to do was set up a payment plan for him at the Bundestpost for a phone bill. You see he had just brought his family in country and we had to go to Graf for a FTX. No one had told his wife that calling back to the States was so costly and while we spent the better part of three weeks in the field she got lonely and called back home and talked to her Ma Ma and friends every day like she was still back on the block. $10,000 later he was in quite a financial fix with the Bundestpost. The other Sgt. Brown I didn’t really know to well, but I think he might have been in the Motor Pool.
Sgt Speidel, here! I was with the 299th Spt from 1983-88. I was the CO’s driver for a while, though I can’t remember that captain’s name. He was killed along with another officer in a traffic accident.
Anyway, your name sounds familiar though I can’t place the face. I posted some old photos from those days on my Facebook page. I still connect with Shawn Powell and his wife Carol (Bingham?), Steve Opatz, Jeff Granger, Slater, Cully Rumery who is still in Germany, Delahunt and a few others.
John, that his her now as far as Brown He was very tall and skinny had three kids by time he left and he was missle maintance, did you know anyone in 296 when we were opposite sides of each other in the building?

Andy, I remember some of the guys you mentioned and some I do not. I can’t seem to remember Opatz and I am pretty sure Delahunt was clearing at the same time I was inprocessing. Slater and you used to hang out alot. He was from Washington state I think. Granger used to operate the 88 if I remember right. I can’t remember if Donald Travis replaced him or visa versa though. If I am thinking of the right guy didn’t Rumery ride bulls or broncos? I seem to remember a night that I went to the Longhorn with Allen Koski and Robert Smith and watched this guy tear up their mechanical bull. The guy running the bull couldn’t shake him off no matter what he did. By the way I might be able to help you remember me a little better by telling you that I am the guy that bought Sgt. Anderson’s little yellow Ford Capri. I used to hang out with Koski and Smitty from Transportation in Tech Supply. I used to room with Sully and Steve Wych. When we went to chow and I walked in the middle the guys used to say we looked like a giant oreo cookie. LOL
I was stationed at panzer and was in B company 299th supt bat. from march 84 to march 86. Carl stedman and Dan andres were my roommates, can’t remember his 1st name but horton was too. I found a couple of guys on facebook, Chris beyer and Mike murray. I’m trying to find Dave young.Sgt. Peterson was my platoon sgt. Would like to here from anyone else!!!
Hey Watkins,
How ya been? I remember you! You and Carlos (Carl) Stedman always hung together with Frankenstein! Nice to hear from you. I was in transportation with Carl and Later on Young came over from Motor Pool also. Watkins was from West Virginia I think, maybe do a public records check starting there. Try the white pages search even. Did you stay in touch with Carl Stedman and his wife Sylvia? If so tell them Sgt. Crump (John) said Hello.
I was in B. Co 299th from 1988 till 1991. I remember the Longhorn club real well. We had some good times there. There is a longhorn page on facebook that you can go check out. There is alot of people that have signed up for it and posted pics. We probably run across each other in the longhorn just didn’t know it back then.
I was stationed in Worms germany from oct.65, to Dec. 66, and my company was transfered to panzer until my ets in April 67. I was in the 38th Bn. 34th trans co. I drove a 2.5 ton with trailer all over Germany.would love to know what happened to the company. I had heard that they went to nam in late 67. Would love to hear from and old friend, photos would be great.
I was with the 342nd Trans Co, and then transferred to HHD 29th Trans Bn there at Panzer Kas. This was from Dec 1966 to March of 1967. Not the greatest kaserne to be stationed at, but much closer to Bavaria .
I was also in the 342nd from 66-68. Don’t remember you or the exact months I was there. I stayed behind for 3 weeks when they transferred to the US because I was close to getting out. Am going back for a visit this Sept with my wife.
I served with the 342nd Transportation company in Mannheim at Turley Barracks. The company was transferred to Boblingen in 66 and 67, I agree that Panzer was not the best place to be stationed after being at Turley Barracks in the middle of Mannheim. I am in touch with Bob Wachter, Stanley Tilton from the 342nd in Mannheim. I remember you and would like to speak with you. addisonwilliams@comcast.net
I was stationed at Panzer Kaserne from September 1957 until March 1959 with the 97th Signal Bn. Helmut Bracke was my sargent and Charles Frazier my comrade woeking in the motor poole on the generators tht supplied power to the radio trucks.
It was good duty and the Ruskies were afrain to start anything while we were there!!
I was stationed with the 97th Signal Bn, Panzer Kaserne, 1957 to late 1958. I was in the ROC VHF Platoon. A Lieutenant Jones was my Platoon Leader. I returned to the States in late 1958 where I entered OCS at Fort Benning, GA and a few years afterwards I returned to Germany as a Company Commander with the 516th Signal Group at Karlsruhe then assigned to the General Staff, Headquarters USAREUR. I well remember my tour with the 97th including the maintenance on our equipment in the motor pool there. I also remember a SFC Morales with the 97th.
During my stay in the 97th Signal Battalion I was in Charge of the HF Power Shop. We repaired equipment for the Provost Marshal Teams in Germany. I was the only German America soldier in Panzer Kaserne at the time. My fellow soldiers that I am still to touch are Jerry La Monica and Charly Frazier, we had 3 reunion in the 90th. Been back to Germany many times, even to the Panzer Kazerne and Boeblingen. Have lots of photos if any of you are interested.
We live in NC and are retired since the mid 90th, enjoying life.

It’s good to see my very good friend, Rex, on here. We took our Army basic training together and then graduated from the Intermediate Speed Radio Operators Course (ISROC) … both located at Ft. Jackson, SC. I believe Rex was also my Squad Leader in basic training. I wasn’t as fortunate as Rex, because I remained with the 229 Signal Company, Support, while he and two other of our buddies (Calvin Blount and Bill Riddle) from Ft. Jackson were reassigned to the 379th Sig. Bn, immediately after we arrived at Panzer on Halloween night in 1960. The 229 Signal Company increased to 100 men and then split up into Companies A, B, C, & D. of the 1st Signal Battalion during the Berlin Crisis. I was the Commanding Officer’s driver and radio operator, both in the 229th Sig. Co. and later in Company A of the 1 Sig. Btn. Capt. Donald Goettel was my Captain and Sgt. Floyd Shaw was my 1st Sergeant … both great soldiers and gentlemen. I agree with Rex’s description of Panzer Kaserne, so won’t repeat it. I was single at the time and also had a girlfriend in Boeblingen. Rex, thanks for the memories! John
John,
My Father was stationed at Panzer from 1960 to 1963. We lived with a German family on the economy as there was no base housing available until 1961 or so, when we moved into the apartments built at Panzer. My father was Sgt. Wade Murph, and I am looking for others that knew my Dad and served with him. Dad died in 2000, and often said his best years were at Panzer Kaserne. If you or others that see this post might have known my Dad, I would like to hear from you.
I Was stationed at Panzer Kaserne, Boblingen I work at worked at the Maintenance Plant repairing engines, if anyone remembers Tito Carrion, I’m also looking for SSG William Rosado was in the 78th Maint, he worked in alministracion will also work with a SP / 4 Agapito Aviles.
Good Memories:
Stored beer in the snow on the roof just to keep cool. Most fabulous time! Trips downtown, also into Boeblingen, which was always great. I met and almost married the most incredible girl Karola Haack, she was from Sindelfingen. I have all the photos of Her. I remember how I met Her.
Pedro Robles, Cayce SC
saludos i was in panzer i was with the tank m60a1 from 1982 until 1994 if you know julio hernandez from 78 mait let me know gracias espero oirte a ti gracis
I was stationed at Panzer from 1971, until we moved to Nellingen, I think in 72, 73. I was with the 472nd Signal Company. I dont remember all of the units there, but I do remember the 5th PsyOps was in the building just inside of the main gate. The EM club was located right behind our two buildings that housed everything in the company, including our own mess hall. It was a great place to be and being my first assignment of a 22 year career, it will always be remembered as my favorite….well…..my second favorite. (Bad Toelz was my favorite, I was there when they closed it). We moved and the post was turned over to the 1st Inf Div. and then when Toelz closed, the 10th Special Forces took it over. I really wish that I could relive some of those days, when the mark was 4 per dollar, a beer was a mark, and a jagersnitzel was 8 marks. What a great time to be alive and at Panzer!!!
I was also stationed at Panzer with the 472nd signal co. 1968-1970 and I was the ration driver for the mess hall it sure was a good time I wish I was back there I would be 42 years younger and spoke fluent German and was E.D. which was the best
I was at Panzer Kaserne 10/60 through 4/62. I was with the Hq. & Hq. Detachment, 379th Signal Battalion–a darn good outfit. There were only 62 of us in the unit and life with the unit was the best. Under the threat of the Soviet Union’s activities in Berlin that summer, Pres. Kennedy began his build up in the summer of 61 and the 379th was deactivated and the !st Signal Bartralion was reactivated. We became Hq. Company, Ist Sig BN. Life changed. We became a 200 man outfit. Our Barracks was located beside the large parking lot which was used by the 29th Transportation Co. to park 2 1/2 ton trucks–deuce and a halfs. We went on alert the 27th of August for seven days when when the Berlin gate at Check Point Charlie was closed by teh East German Vopos and our unit depolyed to the boon docks–where we never learned but some said near Chez border. Overall, Panzer Kaserne was a beautiful post. The barracks were great, the winters snowy and cold but the summers nice–especially at the Swim platz in Boeblingen, where we hubng out on the weekends. Yes, there was a hole in the fence behind the motor pool and no one ever stopped anyone from coming and going to Moms place. There was another hole near gate 1 in the woods. I use it many times coming back late from Stuttgart where I had a girlfriend. Any other guys from old Hq. & Hq Det of the 379th Sig Bn of from Hq Co, 1st Sig Bn. Give me a shout.Rex Redmon
Rex,
My Father was stationed at Panzer Kaserne the same years as you, and I dont remember his unit, but I believe it was a transportation unit as he was a mechanic/motor sergeant. I remember the holes in the fence, as we lived off post with a German family in Boeblingen, and we would always walk to the post and go through the holes onto base. As a kid, I loved Panzer and the woods around it.
My Dad’s name is Wade Murph, if you might happen to have served with him.
I was stationed at Panzer Kaserne from May 1960 to Feb 62. I remember sgt Scubert, Warrent officer Rickerson. Len Russo from NJ was another among many friends i had. Many good nights were spent at the haufbrau house in stuttgart and also in Boeblingen. Would love to go back for vacation. Reguards’ Harry
I was at the 229th till it broke up in 1961 and was in Co C 1st Signal till 1963. Still in contact with Gary Gilkison, Bill Van Klavern, Larry Mason. Sam Lee died few years ago. Would like to know what ever happened to Larry Guillot, Goodman and probably many others. Oh Yes Rawlins died last year.

Good Memories:
Stored beer in the snow on the roof just to keep cool. Most fabulous time! Trips downtown, also into Boeblingen, which was always great. I met and almost married the most incredible girl Karola Haack, she was from Sindelfingen. I have all the photos of Her. I remember how I met Her.

saludos i was in panzer i was with the tank m60a1 from 1982 until 1994 if you know julio hernandez from 78 mait let me know gracias espero oirte a ti gracis
