  1. In an earlier post this date, I said I arrived in 29th Signal on August 1960. This is in error. I arrived August 22nd 1959. The Battalion was in the field then, but I stayed the week-end in A Company.

  2. Hey Jim,
Apfel Korn is still available!! Most liquor stores all over the US carry it now, and if they dont, they can order it for you! It is in the section near the Jagermeister usually…

  3. when I was with the 502nd engrs. AFB 79-80 we used to live in the field.i’m not much of a drinker anymore, but the best part of going to the field was getting blitzed on appel corn, i think that’s how you spell it, does anyone remember that great brew??? when we’d go out there, there was alway’s a commrade at the edge of the woods standing there selling it. boy i loved livin’ in the field.

    • I was in 583rd 79-82. I’m still in K-Rue. You wouldn’t believe how things has changed since then. The homes in PRV have balconies, the officers club(area) is now a complex for elderly people. PRV NCO club is still there, the PX is now a Russian super market. As for Neureut krsern, the barracks has been ripped out and it’s now a new housing area for the locals. The two buildings left on Gerzewski’s is the Church and the recreation building. I’m still loving it here.

  7. I was stationed at Neureut from 84-86 with the 268th Signal Co. What I wouldn’t give to go back to those days!

    • Hi Bob, Tom Shea called me. I was with 2nd from 63-66. What a wild time. I remember a reporter visiting us from the Stars and Stripes one night because our bn commander had started his own, private jail. Anybody screwed up they were locked up in the arms room under gaurd. Remember some guy escaping during noon formation. He ran barefoot accross the parade ground and jumped the fence. So many srories.

I recall, the rest of the Battalion also moved to France, B Company remained behind at Neureut Kaserne. B Company later became C Company, 69th Signal Bn.

George DeHaven I remember well, he having come to B company from the the 17th Signal when the 29th went off to France. I left in October 1963.
