    • Hi Larry,
      I missed you by 3 years. I was in the 116th, later renamed to 45th from 79-91. There is a facebook page for Merrell Barracks and also one for 45th Ord Co, check them out.

  3. Was stationed at Merrell Barracks with the 359th ASA Company. Would like to see if there is anyone that remembers me. I was stationed there from 1981-1984.

    • I was there from 83-85. 359ASA then 502nd MI. I was in the motor pool.

  6. I was stationed with HHT at Merrell Barracks 2nd ACR from 1-72 to 12-72 until I was transferred to K Troop 3rd Squadron 2nd ACR at Pond Barracks in Amberg. I left Pond Barracks & returned for honorable discharge at Fort Dix, N.J. as a SGT. E-5 11D40 MOS 8-20-1974. Those were the days!

      As I recall, we had a bit of a falling out, but those were some great days, weren’t they?

    • I wsa stationed at merrell Jan. 82, – Jan. 84 With the 34th Sis. Bn. attached to the 2nd ACR and work at the mircowace tower / rig I worked for Lt. Kopp, SFC Keller SP4 Sims and others. Had a blast while stationed there

    • John Shively was my friend and my mentor. I was just an innocent naive kid from Wisconsin when I went in the army and Shively took me under his wing and showed me the way. I was thankful to have him as my roommate…except for the time his light my pants on fire. Heheheheehehehehehehe.

    • That was cravens who lit you up man,I put you out.I was on top of wall locker painting ceiling.It took time to climb down and put you out.That was a bad burn.Dang,I cant belive you thought I did that.I am sorry for breaking all your stuff when you messed with my tunes.I was having a bad day.That has bugged me most of my life.Really sorry man.Cravens got beat bad in Leavenworth,several times.I never laughed so hard in my life.If he was on fire I would not put him out.I need your e mail.We have to stay in touch.I want to send you pictures,I have 3 grandkids,We need to catch up

I’m Just sitting here in South Philadelphia, thinking about Merrell barracks and the Fun i had in Nurenburg and at the Christkringle market Drinking gluewein, hanging out with friends, it was a magical time, i was with Charlie Battery 3/17 th Field artillery Special Weapons 8 inch unit, i arrived January 1982 and left July 1983 to go to the First Cavalry Division Fort Hood Texas, If any body remembers me ,give me a shout out.     • I remember you. I was in Alpha Battery Fire Direction Center from 1981 to 1983. Do you remember Tessmer? Chris Howard? A crazy german guy with a knife when we were walking back from the bar late one night?

    • Hey Ernest, I was in B Btry and left at the beginning of 1961. My buddy was Roland (Nip) Martin + Willis, Morgen, Snapp, McSherry, Williamson, Bartlett, and others. Later, I returned to Germany with the 9th Inf in Mannheim and as a civilian worked for a Germany company in Karlsruhe in the early 1990′s.

  15. Wow this was fun reading all the post here. I was in SVC Batty 3/5 FA was in ammo section for a bit, then was in S-4. I got to Merrell in Nov 83 to Nov 86. Had some times there also I remember 1Sgt Billy Webb then it was 1Sgt Raider and if you were there for 1sgt Raider you remember the raider twist lol. if you were there write me had some good friends while there. bossluggo2008@yahoo.com

  16. I was stationed here with the 359 ASA, 2nd ACR from dec 82 till jun 84, i had one hell of a time this place was great, would lioke to hear from some old friends that i parted with while i was her.

    • Hey Joey, I was there at the 359th from late ’79 to early ’83. Health problems keep me from remembering many names back then, but I do know it was a mostly good time, especially the first year.

  17. I was briefly stationed at Merrell Barracks in 1969 before I got shipped out to the Rock at Binlach, near Bayreuth.

    I would love to hear from anybody that remembers me from that time, especially Munter who accompanied me on an R&R when I got a European discharge.

Most of you called me Smitty….. looking for anyone out thier 3/5 Field Artillery Unit ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,George…….Thompson……Sgt Davis… Sgt Gist…….Sgt Greenwood…….Sgt Smith……..Sgt Hyman……..Brown for the mess hall…..Sgt Greenwood………Simon……….everybody new our man who left us to soon in Montgomery………what’s up pittman………Savage. having brain fart lot of years ago……..

    • I remember you Smitty. I was Simon, Amerson and Ewings roomate. We were in Sgt. Lees section in charlie. I remember all the guys in the battery. Hope to here from you. You should remember me, I was the only native american in the battery.
