I was with A-10-E from 1976-1979. I was a little saddened to hear recently that the U.S. was closing schweinfurt both barracks, as well as another one can’t remember which one. Bamburg? Times change, always thought I might get back for a visit guess that will not happen now.
I was stationed at Ledward Barricks from Nov 1973-march 1977. Assigned to c co 703rd Maintenance. ran the fuel and electric repair section and ran the service and recovery section. Went from pv2 to e5p before departing. first daughter was born at Wurzburg hospital. Had many enjoyable times in Schweinfurt, lots of beerfests, volksmarches, trips to the city bird farm/zoo. was in the stadium for the Olympic soccer games. Toured all over the city had a great time. would like to return someday for a visit and reminiss the old days.
hi john, your the first I’ve seen from my old unit. was in c/703rd from 66 thru nov.68. was a courier till i made 5 and then worked in shop office. wouldn’t mind hearing from some of my old buddies from what seems like another lifetime.
I was at ledward from 1980-1982 C-Troop 1 platoon 3/7 Cav. some of the best and Proudest times of my life. does anybody remember the name of the trooper killed in training exercise between Nov. 81 – Mar. 82 I believe he was in B-Troop?. please e-mail me with that info thank you. ” IF YOU AN”T CAV. YOU AN’T SHEEE IT M.F.
I was in Bravo 2/30th from 1981-83. I was 17 when I got there. Do you remember doing track park guard? Everyone called it pig guard. lolI had a great time over there. Funny thing now is… I’m going back for a visit. After all these years.
I was stationed with 1/30th 3rd ID from 1986-1989. I was with Aco for a while then moved to HHC. I was the dispatcher for the battalion as well as the driver for WO3 Bullock.
I was Kontakt coordinator in 1977 and 1978. The PAO was CWO Mr. Ohl. I forgot the PAO secretary’s name. She was German, lived just 10 minutes from Ledward and, as I later heard, unfortunately died on cancer.
You were right – great times! I recall visiting Jeanne Jones near Nuernberg and some seminar we had near Heidelberg. I was on Special Duty as Kontakt coordinator for some 18 months, then returned to 1/10 Arty across from the dispensary.
I was stationed at Schweinfurt, Ledward Kasern, 7 Army, Headquaters, 3rd Missle Btn, 7th Artilery, Hawk Missle, from 08/1963 to 04/1964. I was transferred to Baumholder, Germany with another Missle Btn for high altitude missles.
I enjoyed my time, even though it was short time frame in Schweinfurt but enjoyed my total time (left in 09/2065) in Germany. I have been back to German in 2000 but did not get back to Schweinfurt. If all goes well planning on returning in fall of 2012.
I was stationed at ledward’s 1st and 30th HHC in 1974-75. I was a medic assigned to BRAVO Co. Our CO was Capt. Makowski. Looking for vaughn monroe, burke, paul darling and reynolds. Quigly was a big redhead guy. I was also involved in a big fight with a sgt youngblood. In HHC I am looking for leslie baker, westry, jackson (who had a beautiful wife). We used to hang out at city club, tivoli etc.
I was at Ledward in the 3rd ID – 2/30 Inf / CSC company, Scout Platton from 1979-1982. I drove an APC in the Scout Plattoon most of time I was there.
Our Base commander was Lt Col Barry McCaffery.
Company Comander was Capt Tozzi. Please email me and let me know if you know anyone that was there with me.
4th Squad, 2nd Platoon, Charlie Company, 2/30th. 1965 to 1967. 60 asst gunner, then gunner, 90 gunner, RTO. Sang in the Chapel Choir. If you were there in November, 1966, you might remember PFC Smith, Marshall JOE, rolling his JEEP. Driver for Alpha SIX.
Hey, Montalvo how are you? I was stationed in A1/30 INF. Ledward Barracks 1978 – 1983. had some great times there. I ‘m gong back for a visit after all these years.
Was in HHC 2/30 Infantry 1978-1981 working under LTC Barry Mccaffery. Had lots of fun especially during REFORGER. Also enjoyed the Crusader Gospel Choir at the post chapel.
Hi Hector: I was in C 1/30; upstairs from you guys from ’81 to ’85. I don’t know if you remember a silver Benz that was always parked at the quadrangle – that was mine. Those were great days! I still think about Schwienfurt often.
Hi, 1SG. Agbakwu how are you? I met your in Fort Lewis,wa in the warehouse with jerry. I remember in Schweinfurt too 1SG. in C 1/30 inf. 1981 to 1983. I was in A 1/30 INF. you might remember SPC. ayala, Perez, Irizarry.
I was stationed at Ledward in 1951-1952 with E Co, 22d Inf, 4th Division. I think we were the first troops to occupy the kaserne as everything was brand new. We were the first troops over in the German Occupation and spent most of our time in the field. At that time, Schweinfurt was pretty well beat up by the bombings. The 1st Division formed most of our cadre. I’m an 82 year old at present with a lot of fond memories of that time in my life..
I was stationed at Ledward with 1/10th FA from Nov 76 to Aug 80. Had a great time! 2/39 blew up an M548 at Graf on summer. Visited Ledward shortly before 9-11 and was surprised how quiet everything was: far less troops. New housing area built behind the wash rack and tank trail off the west gate. Also Conn Bks. was much quieter. EUCOM Audio Photo (at Conn) club had closed. Nobody wore fatigues anymore (switched to costly BDUs). Cav (3/7th) had left. When I was stationed at Ledward the Cav transitioned from Shedirans to M60s – during my later visit I saw Abrams and no M60s or jeeps, also no gamma goats (what crap vehicles they were!) and no Goers (also crap). A McDonalds was built across from the main gate! ARAL gas station was no more. Also the used car dealer had left (I bought an expensive junk there).
Tony and Schmidt at the used car dealership were by buds; bought two cars from them. Before I left they had moved further down Niederwern Strasse. They did sell some crappy junks too! LOL. I got there in Nov ’81; stayed until Jan ’85. Good ol’ days they were.
I was also with the 1/10th from 76 – 81, A Btry. I remember the M548 incident, Really had alot of good times there and really miss it, Have a daughter there she visits about every 2 years, But those were the days.
Hi Bill,
I was in B Btry. Btry Co was CPT Bryant, 1SG was Cantrell. If I recall correctly, A Btry was at the front end of the building (along with SVC and C Btry) while B and HHB were are the other end, across from the entrance to the dispensary. I visited Ledward in the early 90s and found, that the side gate (next to dispensary) had been closed. While waiting to enter at the main gate, I spoke with one of the guards and explained about having been with the 1/10th. He must have though I was nuts – 1/10th no longer existed! I wish I could find the pictures I took at that visit, they’re hiding somewhere in the basement. Ledward was very quiet. The taxi stand had moved and the bowling alley was gone. I drove down the tank trail where we used to run three times a week (to the cross roads, then back via side roads and past the Mercedes dealer and housing office. Good times.
I’ve heard rumors of Ledward and Conn (along with Warner Bks in Bamberg) closing. Don’t know if it’s really a closure or a draw down of various units. I’ll need to visit again in the near future (I live in Bonn, Germany). I have frtiends in Hesselbach (towards Area “M” and the QRS Site).
we were the first to get the bradley and train on it, around 1983, anyone here remember that, and anyone remember Diana who ran the movie theater? I live offpost in obendorf, went to the swatzer alder witht he owner named Uvae? i was in the infanrty, let me know if you were around
