Hello: I was in the 25th. Signal Bn. (Const) 1955-57 and I do remember the 69th. but that is all I remember. Do you remember Jack’s Bar; if so, can you tell me your recolections. Thanks Harv
Hi Harvey. Sorry, don’t remember Jack’s…. but I’m sure I visited it (more than once!) in my 2y4m’s there (RA). Is it still there, do you know? Location?
I believe my dad was in the 69th Signal Corp. and we were in Germany 55-57. His name was Sgt. Charles Krumholtz (Chuck or Krummy not sure which nickname at that time). We lived in the Apts. adjacant to the football field outside Kleber. I was only 10 at the time but I know that my Mom would remember some of Dad’s friends there. My dad passed away last Nov. 4 days before his 89th birthday. I would like to hear from anyone who may have known my Dad in those days.

I was at Kleber 1959 – 1960 with the 552 QM, Refer unit. We moved to K-town from Frankfurt in 59 and hauled food from the cold storage located just outside of K-town. I played football for one of the teams in K-town, not the one on the Kleber side of town , but, on the other side of town(don’t remember the name of the kaserne). A friend of mine, Joe McLaughlin, from Charlotte NC also played. Would like to hear from anyone that I may have made contact with during this time.
I was stationed at Kleber from 1960-1963 with 94th Arty command. My favorite place to go was the Lof Ringer Hof for dancing. I was only 17 on arriving in Germany. I worked a week of days then a week of nights and was off for a week. I traveled all over Germany. My German girlfriend was Christa Leidner whom I wanted to marry but her parents wouldn’t allow her to leave as she was the only child. We still talk on the telephone at least 3 times a week. When my wife and I go to Germany we stay with her and her husband and when they come to the states they stay with us. K-town has become more Americanized than America. You tube has lots of videos showing K-town. Everyday I view the Kaiserslautern CIty webcams. New roads have been constructed.A few months ago I finally contacted some of the guys from Kleber & 94th Arty. Alvis Ward is now in Texas and Al Pilliod is in Calif. If anyone from 94th Arty sees this please contact me thomp22@bellsouth.net. I’m still 20 miles west of Atlanta. It’s now cheaper to fly from Atlanta to Franfurt than it is to Las Vegas.

Kleber Kerserne was my first duty station from 1974-1978. I was a 31M Radio Relay Carrier Attendent assigned with D Company, 1st Signal Battalion, 7th Signal Brigade. I do not remember the any of the company staff members but I remember a SFC Schambuger. I helped him moved. I was detailed to the unit supply (why, I do not know) for a while. The company was housed in the old barracks in front of the baber/taylor shop and we later moved to the front barracks. I was a young man who freqent the little club in Hockspyer. I left as a E5 heading to Fort Hood Texas. Three years later I was back in Germany assigned to A Company, 26th Signal Battalion at Wharton Barrack with the 93rd Signal (EDCN) Emergency Deployment Communication Network located in the town of Geisawind. Looking to hear from any body who was with me during that time frame. Give me a shout out at my e-mail address: naturallykool@netzero.com. I will update as memory serves me.

Hello Viola:
I’m a little late in responding; but, I do not remember the Quick Bar …. only the Florida, The New York City, Stadtwein, Broadway and best of all Jack’s Bar. The first bar on the left when you came from Kleber by bus….
Thanks Harvey.
All the places you remember are not there any more. The only place still standing in the area around Kleber is the Wagon Wheel,a pizza house that was there since I was a kid.I was born right down the street from Kleber in an old apartment house next to the park.My parents married on Kleber in 56.My dad was there from 56 to 59 with the 25th eng bn.I am Viola from Mass now live in up state NY.Archie Collins from OK and I are very good friends on skype and by email.I will ask my aunt if she knows what happened to the people who worked in the bars you remember.Take care my friend.
Hello Viola: Did not see this latest response … So, let me comment, the Wagon Wheel was there when I arrived and before my arrival in ’55. I could see it from my room in Kleber as we were in the old German military barracks. Many is the night we never entered through the gate but went through the windows that were left open by our buddies. At one time i was a member of the Security Detachment at Kleber. I was rather certain that most if not all of the bars had closed….. it would be interesting if your aunt knows of the women I had known and can point me in the right direction. I only know the last name of my favorite but the others I have first names…. They were all terrific people … as were the bar owners themselves … I knew them all … I live in PA and was originally from Brooklyn, NY Harv

Hello Viola:
I emailed you a message at the Email you provided but it came back “address unknown” ….. I have been having problems with the Email software…In any case, I am not familiar with the names of the GIs that you provided because I did not frequent The Wagon Wheel or the other clubs by Kleber. For some reason I went into Ktown and frequented Broadway, New York City and Jack’s Bar; mainly Jack’s Bar …. I did not know the gals mentioned but they all knew one another as they went from place to place bringing their customers from place to place as do bartenders today. In any case, my Email address is Rem4440@Ptd.net. Sure would like to hear from and see photos etc. etc.

I stumbled across this website when trying to possibly find some folks that I knew when I was stationed at Kleber Kaserne, Kaiserslautern from ’89 to ’92. I was in HHD 53rd Trans.Battalion, S2/3, graphic illustrator. We had six companies in the Battalion: 66th, 270th, 501st, the one on the hill in Perm, to name a few. I forget the other ones actually!…lol
I attended (member) of the 11am gospel service held on Daenner Kaserne across the drag strip (the polizei use to tear that road up). Anyway, if you have any connections from folk in my old Battalion, plz let me know. A website with our Unit pictures by year would be nice. Really trying to reconnect with Gregory L. Davis. He was with 270th in Ramstein but lived in 501st barracks. He later became a Ranger down in Ft. Benning, GA.
hello everyone. we were stationed at kleber kaserne from 1989 to 1991 and are looking for fellow soldiers that were there. So far I have found Aria Bursee but nobody else. It would be great to reconnect and get a bunch of you together for a reunion here in the states. My ex husband’s name was SPC Rodney Dale he worked in the Armory there and the Motorpool. Aria worked in the office. If you were there please let us know so that we can reconnect with all of you. Thank you very much.

I was also in Germany in ’85-’95 and visited K’town and Kleber. Kleber had changed little; same old buildings but fewer soldier types visible. Entered via back gate and ate at Snack Bar beside Bowling Alley.
We never went to Kasabra Club outside Kleber main gate; but loved the Enlisted Club (name?) across Mannheimer Strasse up in Daenner Kaserne. Remember the two German bartenders mixed drinks super fast “til their hands turned read from ice and booze. Loved the Singapore Slings! Of course being in K’town the local bier of choice was BBK or Parkbrau. Remember the Mai Fests?? Love than food, bier and fun. Zum Woll!!

And to answer another GI’s comment/question: Yes, I remember Popcorn Sally at Kleber Theater. She was small, wiry, dark hair, and cursed/mumbled almost non-stop. She really complained louder if you wanted butter on your popcorn. She also swept up the entire theater after last show; only going home after we were all long gone.
