I was a brat in Hof where my father, Arthur Culver (General Dynamcs, at Hohensass) was assigned from 2-1962 to 7-1964. My brother Bruce and I were in German schools until Fall of ’63, when we entered the Bindlach Dependants School (I was in Mr. Saari’s 8th grade class.) Then in January ’64, when a school opened in Kingsley, we transferred there.
I have to dig out my report cards: 6th, 7th an 8th grades were in one room with Mr. Paul. There were four 8th graders: me, John Peterson, one other guy and a girl named Christine. Any help?
We were in Hof in October 1962 when the Cuban missile crisis happened, and I remember a quick trip to the mountains south of Munich as many expected tanks to come across the border. As it was, the MiGs were checking out Hohensass on a regular basis.
This is a really interesting history of Hof Kaserne BEFORE the end of the war, a lot of stuff I didnt imagine!
can someone help me, please, i am searching for Thomas Edwards, born on 06.September 1942, served 1968 – 1973 in HOF, Germany by the Air Force,
he should be a lieutenant and drove sometimes a helicopter.
He was called Tommy, and was married to Sharon, who was lived with him the last year 1973 into the barracks, also he had a girl named Tanya.
Jessica,
I arrived in Hof in February of 1963, left in February of 1966. USAF
Was the party you asked about in the Naturhelverein?
Don’t recognize the last name, Ingrid Brauer. Did she marry a Ami?
I was stationed in Hof, 11/22/61 to 10/12/64 with the 6915th Scty Grp, formerly designated 6915th RSM, USAFSS. We were across the street from the 2nd Armored, the USAR Border Patrol. I would not have known your grandmother, to my knowledge. This was my only active military assignment with my one time enlistment in the USAF, 05/25/61 to 10/22/64.
David, Good to see you are on here. I was at the Regimental Border Ops Center, Merrell Barracks, 1980 to 1985. Hope to talk to you one day, Mike Foxtrot Charlie out!
