I was stationed at 5th maintence battalion from Sept. 1968 to MARCH 1971. I sure think about it a lot. We had some good times at Heidi’s across from the kaserne. If anyone knows how to find people we were stationed with there, I sure would be interrested in finding out howm to go about it.
5th Maintenance Battalion C-Det. Commo MOS 31E20 Radio repair SP4 Served 17 months and days from Sept 66 to Mar 67 installing the new transistor radios in jeeps, trucks PC whatever ….. Removing the old tube radios from ww II. I played football on the Battalion team and we won the league Championship. I enjoyed and drank a few beers at the German Club and the Polish Clubs on the base. elanghd@yahoo.com
I was there from 1955 to 1956 with 12th Ord Bn. We worked out in the boonies and we had the little white building with the blue lights. Our barracks were across the street from the 59th Arty. and the main dining hall. We were there before Germany got independance. I remember well the little Texas Bar outside the gate. Good Schnitzel and lots of beer. We were made up of HQ Co, A Co. (technicians), and B Co. the MPs. We pulled duty on the gates, the house of blue lights and some town patrol. It was a wild trip to chase the GI’s out of the bars before or by midnight. We would go back, turn in our weapons and go downtown and check out the ladies. Who was going to turn us in. I was 19 at the time. I got out, came back in and stayed for 21 years. It really was a good time and we did not realize it until we were much older. I am now one of the nearly ancients. We eventually moved to Masswiler
Hi, I am trying to piece together facts that have gotten away from me. I was stationed with the 75th Ordnance Co in Pirmasens 1952-1953. I no longer remember, but think perhaps the 75th was under the 9th Ordnance Bn, which the 12 Ord. Bn replaced. I have been unable to find any record of the 75th for some reason. Do you have any insight? I sure have a lot of memories of that place. Appreciate any thing you may have……
Hi, David-I too participated in the dessert shield operation. Can we go back to 546th Maint Co.
