I wa hoping you could answer a question for me. I am putting up a board showing everywhere I was stationed. I forgot which patch wa worn at the 97th general hospital. I left in 1968 just before you came. I hope you remember the patch.
97th is still standing but probably only because it is now the American Consulate Frankfurt. Almost everything else that the US used in and around Frankfurt and especially the hospital is now gone. There are two facebook groups for related to the 97th. The first is “97th General Hospital, US Army, Frankfurt, Germany” and the other is “97th General Hospital and Friends”
Folks looking for medical records from the 97th should google the national personnel records center (NPRC) in St Louis and look for a records request. Per regulation all medical records are suppose to be retired to NPRC. THe date the records were retired depends on the type of record (inpatient, outpatient, speciality record (i.e. Fetal Monitoring strip), the last time the patient was treated. Things needed to find records include the sponsor’s SSAN or if really old the sponsor’s sewrvice number. It is a time consuming process but records can be recovered.
I lived in Germany from 1987-1991.My son had a major accident (HEAD iNJURY) in the US prior to going to Germany. Thanks in advance.
I was stationed at the 97th 67-68. Started out as a lab tech and then got to work the information desk in the main lobby. The 97th is no more. It is now the American Consul. Lots of fond memories of the 97th Freddy’s Bar and great pizza from Balogna’s (the German version of Dominos only better)
The 97th was a great place to be stationed at. Many fond memories. I was there November 1972 to November 1974. The first year I was a medic on the orthopedic ward followed by a year in Inhalation Therapy. Freddie’s was fun. I recall a bartender named Tony with a deep voice. I also remember my NCOIC, SFC Emery T. Jones.
Ah Freddie’s Bar lol, I was there most weekends between June 1973 and June 1975.. it kept me sane . I worked in Oral Surgery dept in xray then as an assistant to Dr. Jack Frost and Dr. Martin Steiner.. great people.
I was stationed at the 97th from nov58 thru nov 60,played softball and basketball for the generals, had a great time,I knew the owner of freddies real well,I also was in medical supply and had a great time for the two years I was there,I also did google earth on gibbs and the 97th,gibbs is totally torn down and all the housing and billits around the 97th are gone and at the time we were getting 4 mark 19 to the dollar, what a bargin,my e-mail is panam33810@aol.com if anyones interested
I was at the 97 Gen Hosp in 77-79, I was a medic and worked on the Orthopedic ward. We would go to Freddies Pizza on the weekend. Best pizza around. Don’t really remember the Chain of Command. It was a good assignment til I decided to climb the castle walls in Heidlberg. Fell off and broke my arm in five different places, was then medevaced to WRAMC in DC.

Robert Davis…. SFC? I was stationed in the emergency room 1976-1978. The NCO IC was a SFC Davis.
I was wondering if Dr. Jack Frost was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA in the early 80′s?
