  1. Stationed at Finthen when the 205th first moved to Germany,,, 72 thru 74 Most excellent memories of times and friends. I still have some of the race posters from the 72 races at the field. Almost 40 yrs ago, WOW!

  2. I was there from 86-89 in HHC 2/4 AVN 3/5 PLT. Had the best time of my life!!

  3. I stationed at Fithen from 1974-1976 with D-Trp, 3/8 Cav. I remember Vernon Boggs. It was the best duty station anyone could have. I am really surprised not too many folks from D-Trp. Hope all is well with the folks I did know there.

  4. Hi guys, I am now a government (GS) currently working for the Army Corps of Engineers in Wiesbade, I live in the Government Quarters at FintherlandStrasse in Mainz, not oo far from where Lee Barracks was. The Airfiled no longer exist, and recently this year Wackerheim was closed too. I go bike riding through these areas and I tell you Germany is not the same now. It is extremely expensive as the Euro took over the world. Gas is almost $10.00 a gallon on the German economy, on base $394.00 per gallon. I was stationed in Eschborn in 1978 and later in Drake/ Edwards casernes 1980-1982. It took me 25 years to return to Germany, now as a civilian is much better and more pay. I have been here 5 years and have two more to go.If anyone is interested in pictues of the area please let me know and I will gladly take some and send to you. carlos.m.rivera@usace.army.mil. Hope to hear form all.

  9. I lived at Finthen AAF from 1965 -1968. My father worked down the road at Wackernheim where he was assigned to the 1/81 . I went to as it was then called H. H. Arnold high school in Wiesbaden. I thought dependent life in Germany was great.

  10. I was stationed at Finthen in 1970 – 1971, and 1974 – 1976, I was with the 295th Aviation , as far as I am concerned, for my twenty years in the army, finthen was the best assignment I’ve had. Met many friends Germany and American both, enjoyed traveling, and really enjoyed the girls and the races.

  14. I was stationed a Finthen AAF in D Co 8th CAB, Armament platoon from spring 1982 to June 1983. Being part of the 8th Infantry BN, they wanted us to play soldier all day and work on helicopters all night. We were on guard duty bout 5 times a month… Loved Germany, but Infantry was a bummer.
I was the only female SGT on base, and they put be in the Animal House, with enlisted troops because the NCO barracks had one shower and latrine facility. so they couldn’t put me there.
Went to the field in winter for training. Look at facebook they have a page “Finthen Army Airfield – 8th Aviation and 205th Aviation”
and pictures of the barracks and hangars.

  19. I looked up FAAF on Google Earth one night. It would seem that the housing area is used for low cost housing for Turkish immigrants and the hagars are used for this and that. I saw one or two private planes on the ramp but not many.
