  6. My dad, Sgt. Jack Brownfield, was stationed at Bindlach from the summer of 1964 until the summer of 1967. I went to eighth grade on base when it was on the fourth floor of the apartment next to the school (the fourth floor of the apartments was, generally, used for temporary quarters, but this section was used by the school since the school wasn’t large enough). Miss Brady may have been the teacher and Herr Paulik was our German teacher (quite a character). During ninth and tenth grades we attended the high school in Furth near Nurnberg. The first year we lived in the dorm at the high school but the second year my sister, Mary, and I rode the train to and from Nurnberg every day with about six other students. Anyway, this all brings back a lot of interesting memories.

    • I was there same time as you 2 or 3 years behind you. I loved it there. Is your dad still alive?

    • 3 or 4 grads in school behind you

    • Hi, Robby
In answer to your question and comment. My dad died in 1998. I have a younger brother and sister who may have been in your grade. Their names are Donald and Pamela. All the places mentioned in your replies to other e-mails bring back so many memories. It was certainly fun, poignant, and sometimes filled with all of the teenage angst that is a part of that time of life. As Bob Hope said, “Thanks for the memories.” Sharon

    • Sorry about your dad. Your last name dose sound familiar maybe one of you were in my class. Sat. Matinee at the movie was always the highlight of the week for me.

    • Dear Robby,

first: excuse me for my bad english – its a long time, that I learn english at school.

I speak with the consulat in Munich and Frankfurt and they said me, thats very very difficult, to find a person in the USA without the social number and all informations about the US Army ar in the States. I only have the name – my mother dont give me more informations. So I look in many websites and search with google – but you can understand, its not good to write all “Jim Curtis” in America a email with the queston: You are my father?

So: Thank very very much for helping and greatings from germany.

      Stefan

  12. Hi, I`m looking for Mark Johnson and Curtis Lawson. They were stationed in Bindlach 1983…would be great to hear from them…

  13. My father, SSG Rubin O. “Dee” Beeler, was stationed to Bindlach, 66-69. I attended 7th and 8th grade at the Elementary School on base. My teacher was Ken Dennis. Started 9th at Nurnberg High School, only got to go to Nurnberg for a little over a month before going stateside. Dad was a “mess sergeant” and he made SFC here, which earned him the right to go to Viet Nam shortly after making SFC.

  14. I’m searching for members of How Battery sub post Bayreuth 1969 – 1971 who may not know about our other web site (armykaserne.com/us/rohrensee-kaserne-bayreuth)

  15. Hey, got a couple of more names I just recalled, a Sp 4 Rodney Ward, from Montgomery Alabama, came to our unit after “the Nam” having served there with the 25th Div. and, there is also the guy that all of us junior NCOs called the “Old Man”, that was Sgt. E-5 Goss, I think he was about 28 or 29, whereas the rest of us we were all around 20 -22…….. Wow, that was so long ago, yet it seems like yesterday.

I think Ward and I went thru the explosives and demolition school at Graffenwohr at the same time. Later had some dry runs at the DAM we were to blow up to drown 30,000 ruskies and their armor if they ever attacked us…………

  16. Was there in early seventys, Msg Marino, 2ndLt. Atkins, XO Lt. Carlson 2nd Plt. scout section leader. Does anyone remeber the club El Manana in downtown Bayreuth? What ever became of shiiiit snit Miller from West Va. The crazy kid in the platton who wouldnt salute officers………. Lets see, names I remember, Shaffer, Kultgen, Koehler, Burton, Burns, Eckendorf, Archer, Ssg Etzler. Didnt the last two cause the big stink, when they, and, a couple of others got lost on patrol, and, ended up captured inside czcheklosvakia, near OP 42?

That was when we ( B troop where on border duty at camp Gates ) I was leading a patrol that afternoon, not far from where they crossed and reported hearing AK gunfire a few clicks to my southeast.

    • I was in B company 71/72 also, I can remember most of those names and a few more
like SSG Pena CSM Snipes, Findo, Guerro , Griffin, Esch, and a few others

basically was just wondering if the base is even there anymore

    • Sgt. Zap, would your full name be Zapata? This is Mike Kultgen, commo check, over. I remember those names and more. Go to Dragoon Base and you will find over 1,000 former and some current members of the 2nd Cav. I was a scout in 1st plt. under SFC. Marino and Lt. Atkins.

    • I was an E-5 in second platoon. Came over to B troop from S-3 in 73. The names you gave sound familiar. I’ll dig up some names

    • I was there between November 1970 and November 1973 then went to 3rd Cav at Ft Bliss. SFC Bobbie Huskins was our platoon sargeant. I remember SSG Pena and CSM Snipes. I was only in B troop for about 6 months before going back to the states. I remember I signed over my VW to one of the staff sargeants there and later received a letter from the MP’s that he never signed it into his name. Nothing I could do. I remember all the pot heads on the third floor threating me.
      My tank number was B23.
After reading what the 1st squadron did in Iraq, I couldn’t be prouder having been in the same unit. “Always Ready”

  17. looking for members from bravo troop 1/2 acr. from 1977 to 1980.

    • Suggest that you look on Dragoon Base. It is a social website of the 2d ACR. There is a B Troop Group on that site, along with others. The are more than 1,300 members on the site, incl Dragoons from all tIme periods

  18. I was stationed at Christenson Barracks, Bindlach from 1978-1979. I was an 91Q Pharmacy Technician. People at Bindlach were very friendly and enjoyed their hospitality. At Christenson Barracks it was hilarious to see what a placebo does to the troops who took them. Really interesting stories. I often had to pull CQ at the clinic and saw all kinds of incidences in and outside of the base. Small theater, PX and close proximity to the town was nice.

  19. I was a medic aug., ’83 thru ’84. HHT 1/2 ACR. Hung with James Bonvisutto. Not sure I replied to the right comment earlier but it was meant for Anderson.

  20. Thinking back……I went to elementary school there with Maria Socci (Soci ?), she had two brothers, Sammy and Frank. Also Cheryl McFall, Donna Seibert, Jim something, Bobby something, teacher was Miss Brady, Mr. Fitzmaurice, Miss Brady again.

I met Miss Brady again, years later, in Panzer Kaserne, Böblingen. She had a twin, also a teacher with American Forces in Germany. My dad was in MI and worked at a sub-post of some kind, in Bayreuth. Would love to hear from people from back then…….

    • I was stationed at Subpost, Bayreuth 1970-1972. I understand that was part of MI back in the 1960′s, had some Air Force people there who were attached to another group closer to the Cz border at Schneeberg (sp?)

I am a military historian, was doing research on my unit years ago and ran across that information.

I just happened to run across your post that mentioned Subpost, Bayreuth.

I was with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Bindlach, a short distance from Bayreuth. The Howitzer Battery was at Subpost with an MP detachment. There were also some 84th Engineers at Subpost after the How Battery moved back to Bindlach. All that might be some clues if you are looking for a little history about your Dad’s stay there.
