  2. I was at Barton Barracks for a short time before my wife came and I moved off post. I worked at DSP in Katterbach from 1980-1981 on the edge of the air field. I worked in the CW group of HHB 2/57 DSP and it was a great time! I can’t say I miss the 2 AM site calls to Grafenwohr during the blizzards but the city and people were cool. I’ve been back to Munich on business a few times and Germany will always be a favorite place to visit.

  3. I was stationed at the US Army Signal School in 1957 through 1958. I have talked to Tom Carino and Jack Treat recently. Looking for any others from the school. Col Creighton was the Commandant, Capt White was the Adjutant, Major Buddenhage was also stationed there but he has passed away. Chaplain Frantzen was there and he too has passed away.

  5. Hello everyone, how far is Ledward Barracks from Barton Barracks (time and distance) and what’s the best means of transportation?

  6. What’s the best means of transportation from Barton Barracks to Ledward Barracks in Schweinfurt? Also, how long does it take to make the travel?

  7. I was in HQ Battalion for 4 batteries of Hawk Missiles, 2/57 from May-Dec 1972 at Barton Barracks. I was the battalion orders clerk in the personnel dept. Although I was trained in Air Defense Artillery at Ft. Bliss, TX, when I first arrived at Barton Barracks, the first question they asked me was “can you type.” My brief stay in the unit and outlying missile sites was interesting but I’ll never forget the day four of us were unknowingly caught up at Barton Barracks and the movie theater in the CIA’s LSD experimentation program known as MKULTRA.

  8. Hey y’all.

I am going back (again) to visit. Anybody want special pics from Ansback, Bleidorn or Barton. Say so, and I’ll get back to you.

  11. I had a blast in GE from1998 thru 2000. I am also kicking myself in the rear for not taking full advantage of a great situation. I plan on visiting within the next year or so.

  12. A Co 141ST signal battalion. 73-75. Best time of my short military career without realizing it at the time. Used to buy cartoons of cigarettes and levis from the PX for the eldery locals in exchange for fixups with the lovely young fraus. Also, occasionally took the weekend evening train to nuremburg for some “wall” action; my favorite was moaning Mona. Loved the food, beer, and the people (the further away from the kaserne, the friendlier the locals were.) Did a european tour in 1990 and kicking myself for only doing a drive-by. I should gone into the compound to check it out. Sure miss that place.

  15. HHB 257, 1984 – 1985; Hung out at the Clock!

    • Hello Dave,

My name is Bob Holmes. I was stationed at Barton Barracks 1984-1985 also. As did you, I fequented the “Clock”. I was in Bravo Battery 2/57 and worked on IHAWK Missles at Katterbach Kaserne, next to the helicopter airfield.

I don’t know that we ever met. I used to go to Nurenburg a bit to the “Rock House”. I also attended PLDC in Landstuhl, late 1984.

I really enjoyed Germany, the Volksmarches were great. My MOS was 24E.

I bought a lot of stereo equipment, cheap for the day, at Hindenburg Kaserne, and saw lots of concerts, many of which were the Scorpions, go figure.

I was surprised that there is this website. Take care. Sincerely, Bob Holmes

    • I was in HHB 2/57 from 79 to 82. I spent a lot of time at the Clock myself.

    • Are the Clock and Liberty Bell still there? THere were both there when I was, but I never heard of the Green Goose. The Clock used to be an awesome bar.

    • They tore down the Liberty Bell in the middle of the 90ies after Joe – the owner died.
The clock got turned into a little casino open 23 / 7 in 1998 I think. YESSS the best times were at the clock!!! Rock’nRoll!!!
